Waghorn

As no one else has created an article on the subject I'll start things off. ( It is a bit of a rant too) I think this transfer deal is absolute madness!!!! I also can not believe Derby, Mad Mel and co have not learned their lesson from the huge outlay on the players signed during the last 4-5 windows.

A total of £8 million for a player that cost Ipswich only £325k is bonkers. Waghorn has got good stats for 2017-2018 but surely we should be looking to tap into a market of finding rough diamonds from the lower leagues and abroad.

We should be signing players that can be sold on at profit, I don't see that with Waghorn.

Reportedly it's £4m and only if/when we sell Vydra.

Then a £4m add-on - only if we get up and stay up.

Fair price for a guy who had 27 total goals + assists last season and scored more from open play than Vydra.

He did alright in Scotland

Not quite correct, he did okay in the Scottish Championship but was like a duck out of water in the Premiership and did not get close to cutting it.

Yeah, that's why I said alright, not well.

Considering we managed to sign a player who had played in the Scottish Prem, who hasn't managed to play a single full game for us, and admitted he's never been fully fit in his entire career, it doesn't really bode well for the ability / fitness of any players up there, especially those who have only done well in the Scottish Championship.

A single decent season in the English Championship doesn't make an £8m player either, especially not at that age.

Something about the proposed deal here doesn't really add up. Unless Lampard has seen something he *really* likes it just seems like a vastly overpriced deal when nobody was even suggesting the player to be worth even one million.

It's not as mad as Everton's £50m purchase for a player who IMHO is no better than Hughes at Watford, but still.

I agree with you 100%.

When you think that reports suggest that 2 players could move in the opposite direction (Blackman, Johnson, Butterfield, Anya) it only seems fair to give them £4m and then another £4m for the mental torture

I have always liked Waghorn. I thought he was outstanding against us last season at Derby. The reported fee seems way too much though unless we can do some sort of cash plus players deal.

Never dull being a Derby fan!

Supposedly cost cutting, free spending, pay over the odds and sell for peanuts.

The Derby way

We must be pretty confident of shifting Vydra to fund the incomings, unless Lawrence is on his way. I can’t think of anyone else who would raise much of a fee. But since transfer fees are spread over years and not paid up front, it’s more important to get players out who are costing us millions in wages. There hasn’t been much in the way of concrete rumours in this regard. Probably we will loan out a few while still paying a chunk to keep the wolf from their doors.

Marriott signs….delighted with this transfer.

Takes our number of strikers to seven if you count Bennett and Vydra as a 'striker'. Yikes.

When Man City were languishing in League One didn't Joe Royle say they had a ridiculous number of strikers - something like 12 or 13 ?

Understatement of the day.....Time to see some go. I'm guessing the Nugent link to Sheff Utd has died down now as they confirmed the signing of McGoldrick?

Regards the comments above

Vidal - I'd be disappointed if Lawrence was to be sold . Needed time to bed in, it's a much bigger expectation and demand playing for Derby than it is Ipswich ( no disrespect to the club but you wouldn't be expecting them to be challenging for play offs) I think this season we'll be seeing a better player. The Frank Lampard factor just adds to it.

9earchange - He's only scored 5 goals! Before Xmas too. £50 million for a winger that's scored that many goals.....Watford have got to be laughing with what they got for him.

Everton's transfer dealings are very similar to Derby's - throw ridiculous amounts of money to get in average to good players (not excellent) and as a club have your pants pulled for what you've spent on them.
