Our British Heart

I've often wondered if our squad is predominantly British by design or accident.

We currently have Ollson and Jozefzoon and with Vydra most likely leaving that leaves two who we would comfortably call first teamers left. This trend has been going on for several years now certainly back before our last relegation.
For the purposes of calculation I have left ROI players out of the foreign list as many of those players in the league qualify as UK players by birth but, through parents, qualify for ROI so rather than pick through each one I've left them out.

Two is an extremely low number for a professional football club regularly challenging at the top of the championship.
Forest, for example, have sold their British heart up the swanny and have 13 foreign players in their first team squad.

We've had success with some great overseas players in our time with Stimac, Assanovic, Eranio, Kincladze and Wanchope to name a few and Mikel Beck who perhaps wasn't that great.

So I was wondering if we've turned our backs on the foriegn players in favour of more local talent as an ethos or is it just random?

And do you prefer our British heart or would you prefer the Forest, Wolves, Fulham approach of success at any price?

Who was the one who left his insoles somewhere and couldn't/wouldn't play? He also suffered from home sickness

Wasn't it Fuetes who was on a dodgy passport, played one game and was deported (or summat like that)?

Good to see it's not just me with a failing memory for names these days

Esteban Fuertes?

Anyway, to answer the original question, Nigel was accused of being anti foreign, and we seem to have followed on from there.

I don't have Frank down as anti foreign, in spite of his being best mates with JT

He can't be anti-foreign, he's married to an Irish lass.

Just looked Fuertes up on Wiki and my memory is better than I thought

"In July 1999, Fuertes was purchased for £2.3m by Jim Smith, manager of Derby County in England. He scored two early goals, the winner against Everton in the league[1] and another against Swansea City in the League Cup.[2] However, weeks later, he was refused entry back into Britain when immigration officials discovered that his Italian passport was forged. Derby were able to sell him on to Lens in France for £2.8m.[3]"

Kstander

Who was the Argentine we had? He had a good free kick on him and he wore the number 2 shirt. Can’t for life of me remember his name.

Seriously, you don't remember Carbonari?

Scored against the dogs twice, both beauts.

And as for Fuertes did not need wiki, I remember that, I was sick when he left
