What have we learnt pre season

Basically nothing
Puels system and formations are
As much a mystery now as last season,
So we shall now reference them as
The current formation
This can change every 5 minutes so pointless
Trying to work it out
353/4231/442 who knows i doubt he does!

The system
An even bigger mystery too both players and fan's
This will simply be referenced as
The system / puels system !

U23
Most the youngsters pre season have equipped them
Selves well
Johnson
Elder
Kapulska
Looking very promising,

New boys
Ward did good and is a good no.2
Maddison looks excellent, think he'll dominate the smaller clubs,
Pereira looks excellent but have seen
More of him going forward than defending
But looks solid at both ends of the field,

Evens was hoping he was going to be our main swoop with wez to partner McGuire ?
Others
Amartey looked good but against top 6??
Mendy again signs of promise

Still think we're a bit thin and if we get injuries
The youth is going to have to step up,

Injured
Evens
Grey

Knocks
Ibbora
Silva
Maddison

Still to return
McGuire
Vardy
Oki

Im hoping a good season with no major injuries
10/12th but not near the relegation
I'll except this if we see positive things from puel
And if we draw games or lose the odd one because he's trying something new so be it
So long as we're not playing
460 or tippy tappy side ways football for no reason
Better get the drugs ready
I've a feeling this season is going to be a long one😱

What an odd rant You don't think it's important that a manager tries out different formations during pre-season? That there won't be a time during the season when we need to change formation?

Funnily enough, on Foxestalk, the criticism of Puel is that he doesn't deviate away from his preferred formation often enough. I suppose one of you must be right...?

Anyway, I think it's clear for anyone paying attention that 4-2-3-1 is Puel's preferred formation. At times we'll need to deviate away - perhaps go three at the back, try to play Vardy with Iheanacho more, etc. But I can't see there being too many times when we switch.

But don't worry - when Big Sam gets the job, it'll be 4-4-ducking 2 and nowt else...

Although massively concerned about Puel I’m not too hung up on pre-season results and especially not formations. Puel has to give everyone minutes, he has expressed frustration over the number of players he has to give minutes to, and that’s down to the clubs previous transfer policy

My concern with puel is that we go back to being a shapeless sideways passing unit that poses no threat. Very much like Southampton we’re under him, they got to 8th while scoring about 19 goals all season or something daft.

But - I’m prepared to give this new set up a chance. Well two games at least

By the way, I wouldn’t want Sam allardyce anywhere near Leicester, but is his football any worse than Puels during the second half of Leicester’s season?!! I don’t think it is. He just tends to grind out results which we couldn’t do

Let's face you bring in big sam
When you're in the bottom 5 shipping goals and look championship bound around Christmas or just after,
And no I wouldn't want him at lcfc
Unless we were bottom with 10points

Foxello - my concern is that Puel has Reid too many formations in pre season.

If (and I believe you’re right by the way) 4-2-3-1 is Puel’s preferred formation, isn’t the job of pre-season to hone that and get all the players clearly understanding their roles in that?

Puel’s worrying amount of change over preseason makes me worry he hasn’t found a system that works yet.

Or maybe he has and he’s cunningly tricking all other managers in to thinking we haven’t got a clue before the first game. Either that, or we haven’t got a clue!

Which is what I think Dublin’s poem is saying...

Claude won't last until Christmas if we've only got 10 points - he'll be gone by November at the latest. Remember his target will be 6th or 7th minimum, not to be hovering just above the relegation spots.

I'm hopeful for the season, reasonably content that we've made a number of acquisitions in the areas that needed addressing, but will they fit in? There's also the huge hole to fill on the right wing so have the players we've brought in got enough quality? Time will tell.

We still look short at CB (which it looks as if the club is trying to address) - Evans' injury is unfortunate, but I can't imagine any supporter being happy with the thought of us starting against Man U with a pairing of Benny/Wes!
