Wijnaldum

Probably our best player tonight. Really liked the look of Fabinho, Keita & Wijnaldum in the middle. Lots of energy and really natural balance between transitions from the middle to the front 3 whilst still providing cover at the back.

Think he could surprise a few this season. His timing on his forward runs has improved a lot and we saw it at the back end of last season too.

Anybody think he could be a starter?

Way too inconsistent and tends to go missing when it matters. Squad player at best.

Disagree with this entirely.

Did he not score in Rome?! It mattered a fair bit then.

Yes that was one his 2 goals he scored last season.

I’m talking more about his midfield play. He does go missing in games. He doesn’t own the midfield like Milner, Hendo and Can showed last season and this season with Fab and Kieta it will be even hard.

You just said he only turns out when it matters and I just mentioned the goal he scored in a Champions League semi final...

You're wrong.

I like him. He's well rounded in his skill set even if he is a bit timid with the ball. He can play any role in midfield for us. Similar to Milner in that regard. We need him.

I did a article a while back saying how he'll be one of those players that come into the team after the new year and we'll all be asking ourselves why he was not starting in the first place because he'll be undroppable. Anyways that point seems null & void now given our options in the centre.

He should be starting against the hammers although I think Klopp needs to move Keita to the right side and move Wij to the left. We weren't as fluid as we were against Napoli but maybe the boys didn't want to take any risks with injury with the first game just around the corner.

We were very poor in that semi. We lost the game remember. Missing the point as per usual. I’m not talking about his one in a blue moon goal but his actual midfield play which isn’t up to top level.

His goals and assists were down last season I agree but he was playing a conservative role. It's pretty obvious that's what Klopp asks from him considering he was very attacking at Newcastle.

His general play is high level

I like Gini.

One of our more underrated players. He does most things well, but at times struggles to impose himself on games. He has the ability, and when he is on song, adds quality and composure to our play.

His goal return is poor, but this is not the only way a midfielder should be judged
