Man Utd v Leicester - Player Ratings

Went to Old Trafford on Friday night and despite the result really enjoyed the game and thought we gave a good account of ourselves. The stats show we had the greater possession, shots, shots on target, corners, but of course the only stat that counts is goals and ...

Schmeichel - One great save second half, decent distribution - 7.5

Amartey - stupid hand ball apart I thought he had a decent game against some very good United players - 6

Chilwell - several excellent forays into United territory that seemed to cause them real problems. Defensively pretty sound. Needs to improve his final ball. If he does, then we have a real player - 7.5

Morgan - nearly gifted Lukaku a goal but that aside had one of his better games for City. Looked fit and must have benefitted from the summer off. - 7

Maguire - played really well and looked like he had a point to prove against the side that allegedly wanted to sign him - 8

Perreira - very impressive debut. A definite upgrade on what we already have - which is what you want from a new signing - 8

Gray - very good attacking performance AND also defensively which is something I never thought I would say. Made a great tracking run back and tackle in the first half. Another who must improve his final ball though if he's going to make the top grade - 7.5

Silva - great for 45 to 50 minutes and then tired and started to lose possession a little. Could be crucial to our passing game so needs to get up to speed and start lasting 90 minutes - 7

Ndidi - not his best game but still a very solid performance against quality opposition - 7

Maddison - excellent debut and looks ready-made for that No.10 role in behind Vardy. Tried the disguised flick inside several times and several times it failed but overall his energy, enthusiasm for the ball and picking out of passes makes him MOTM - 8.5

Iheanacho - worked tirelessly and made many runs down the channels that weren't picked out. Great turn and shot in the box that just missed. Perhaps need to channel his energy a little more productively. - 7

Subs

Vardy - scored again against Top 6 opposition but missed a howler
Iborra - OK. Didn't add anything and didn't disappoint
Ghezzal - reasonable debut. Must try hard not to compare the 26 year old Algerian with the 27 year old Algerian we have just sold...

Puel - can't argue with the starting eleven (maybe Simpson for Amartey but looks like Simpson has disappeared off the face of the King Power). Subs were OK although would have liked Maddison to stay on but presumably he had picked up a knock or Puel was worried his "debut enthusiasm" may result in a second yellow.

As for United I thought they were better than some post match commentators made out. Shaw had an excellent game at LB but the star of the show was Pogba who basically took the second half by the scruff of the neck and ran the show. The confidence of winning the WC was oozing from him.

They probably meant in the Premier League?

But I'm sure you knew that really.

"They probably meant in the Premier League?"

Even in that context, how much longer does he need now? Half a season playing and half a season preparing for someone in their late 20s should be enough for a quality player to not keep giving the ball away with random plays in dangerous areas.

Silva looks a poor signing if I’m honest. I don’t really understand it at all given his age. I think again, like Inler, we have a quality player who isn’t suitable for the premier league because he needs time and space that you get in Europe.

Maybe so. He always looks rushed on the ball and - last season at least - didn't read the game well enough defensively. It's interesting that Iborra looks far more comfortable on that front, but the concern with him is that he won't cover so much ground and has a habit of slowing the game down too much. Like other positions in our squad, I think if they could combine abilities then we'd have an excellent player on our hands.

Imagine Cambiassos brain inside Grays body. You’d basically have Ronaldo

I wonder who we'd have to convince at the LRI to get that to happen.

I thoughts silva looked pretty tidy at old Trafford. His best game for us I thought.

Lots of diagonals opening up space on the wing and lots of good quick interplay.

Yes as a result he does give the ball away but for me, his only learning is to know when it’s ok to take that risk and when it’s not.

I also really like Iborra and don’t think he’ll slow games down when people are running beyond him which is what wasn’t happening last year. He isn’t the quickest across the pitch but he is efficient on the ball.

Decimals are the devil's rating system. I will have no part in them.

I thought it was Napoleon's rating system – which 200 years ago amounted to pretty much the same thing I guess.

Just popped a turrd through Amarteys letterbox. Hoping it motivates him to put in a better performance against Wolves
