Pressure...what pressure?

Here's an interesting snippet:-

Wolves have set themselves the ambitious goal of winning the Premier League within seven years. Fosun International, the group that owns the club, has given its management team a number of demanding internal targets including a top-ten finish this season, their first in the top flight since 2012, before qualifying for the Champions League in subsequent seasons and the ultimate ambition of winning the title in the next seven years. Nuno Espírito Santo, the head coach, has been backed in the transfer market with £70 million spent on new signings that means he will be under pressure to match the club’s big ambitions.

I've no doubt that Fosun will have set targets on Jeff & Laurie to achieve, what they actually are is open to speculation. I suspect Martin Samuels is referring to comments made around the time of the take over which indicated a 10 year plan to make Wolves one of the biggest clubs in Europe. We are now in year 3 of their tenure and a year ahead of schedule so the seven year plan he refers to is to me a regurgitation of old news.

I very much doubt that there is any concrete plan to finish top 10 this season, survival first then as high as possible must surely be the aim. For next season is the one where we can really start to push on, the FFP shackles should be off, and Fosun can invest more or less at will, as they have already indicated in terms of stadium development at least.

If we do stay up, and I'm confident we will, next summer is the one where Fosun will start to flex their financial muscle. That's going to be fun!

The FFP shackles never actually come off though. Everyone's limited by their turnover though the longer you're in the Prem the easier it will get. It will be incremental though.

Personally, it's beyond me how Fulham are currently working within FFP rules. They must be relying on turning over circa £180 million this season in order to make ends meet.

Yes, true. I should have said the FFP shackles will be relaxed as our PL turnover will be a big step up from what it was in the EFL.

Interesting reports today saying that 10 premier league clubs could have made a profit last year without any turnover at all from gate receipts. Including Bournemouth, which is hardly surprising given that their ground only holds about 30 people.

A top ten finish will have been the obvious first step and a quite achievable target given what we have spent and what we already had, and you only have to look at the sides that have finished in the top ten in recent seasons to realise it is very achievable for us.

I certainly won't shat the bed if we finish 12th or even 14th if certain circumstances arise but ANYONE thinking the aim is survival is very very out of touch with what we are trying to achieve and further than that a 15th place finish or below will leave Fosun very unhappy and Nuno quite possibly out of a job.

2017-18 Newcastle were 10th level on points with Palace and Bournemouth on 44 points and Burnley managed to finish feckin 7th, a side that couldn't even score a goal a game.

2016-17 Southampton and Bournemouth wer 8th and 9th on 46 points with WBAand West Ham 10th and 11th on 45 points

That is the last two seasons so nobody is going to convince me top ten is VERY attainable

Should that be "NOT VERY attainable" Cinci?

If so I agree.
