This Is England 86 - 90

MOVING THIS TO THE UNITED BOARD, AS IT'S NOT GETTING THE PROPER ATTENTION ON MOVIES AND TV.

The movie was good but the TV shows have been another level entirely. The performances are exceptional, particularly Vicky McClure, Joe Gilgun and Stephen Graham.

Combo's final scene was incredible, as was the dinner table scene.

The last two episodes of 86 were extremely hard to watch.

*SPOILER* The last episode of 88, Lol's *attempt* was shocking but then Woody's reaction to realising she wasn't dead was one of the best and funniest tension relieving scenes I have ever watched.

Considering a lot of it was improvised, it's just incredible.

It's incredible isn't it. The scene where Woody confronts Milky about him sleeping with his misses is acting at its finest. A real fantastic, but incredibly bleak and depressing series.,'

Also one of my favourite scenes is when Combo gets out of prison and walks into the home of Woody, they both start crying when they see each other. It's a brilliant scene.

Yep one of my favourite scenes too. Everything about it. Like the way Combo holds Woody. Doesn't give him a big hug, it's almost subservient. Stephen Graham is amazing.

And the scene with Milky and Woody is great too. I also like the next scene they're in together, at the hospital where Woody says he loves Milky and then he's like "you haven't even got any stitches" .

What's your interpretation of what happened to Combo? And do you think Shane Meadows will make another one? Imagine 94, the rise of Oasis, or 96, wit Euro 96, Knebworth, New Labour etc.

I found the 88' one a bit depressing tbh, but in all, loved the film and the other series brilliant.

Your right mate it is very depressing. But it's very realistic potroyal or working class northern in the late 80s early 90s. It's one of the most gut wrenching, brilliantly acted tv shows I have seen. I wouldn't say it's my favourite, as The Soprano's beats anything hands down for me , but it is superb

Yeh Shane Meadows has confirmed he is making another one mate, 96 I think it will be and will be 1 film supposedly. Not sure he will be able to beat these, but he is a genius at these sort of films etc. Combo is surely dead ? Harrowing weren't it. Part of you thinks he deserves it, but the other part thinks he has changed his ways and you want him to live. Stephen Graham is a magnificent actor.

The film in particular did though have humour.

This is England 96 should be magnificent. Euro 96, Oasis, Britpop and all that.

My sister thinks he's still alive because if they make another one they have to include him. But it could be the fallout of what happened to him, and Lol and Woody finding out. Combo could still be in it via flashbacks, and seeing what happened to him once those two white guys closed the door. They could slowly reveal it across all 3 or 4 episodes.

Would be amazing. Some of the characters could go to Knebworth to see Oasis, or head down to London for England games. A lot of potential. Would their lives improve under Labour?
