Head of Steam

This article is purely down to being bored of the repetitive patter from Rangers fans saying that they 'look better' or are going to 'challenge' Celtic this year.

First Impressions

What did we think of the Gers yesterday then? I was really pleased, definitely not a game we would have won last season. I don't mean so much as beating Motherwell away as we did that, but more the type of game it was.

Credit to Motherwell, I think they look miles better this season than under McGhee and they will be fine this year. I don't know if many other teams will look to cross the ball as much as they did and generally we handled it fine. Big Bruno was like a magnet to the ball in the air and Cardoso looks like he is going to be a good signing. His defending at the end when they broke on him 3 v 1 was top drawer in terms of decision making, temperament and positioning. He looks a real find.

I still thought we were a bit too open at times, and could have done more to block the crosses coming in but that improved massively when Tav came on for Hodson - still baffles me that people have said he is a better option at right back and that Tav can't defend. The difference when he came on yesterday defensively was massive.

Good to see Windass doing himself justice as well after some of the comments towards him on social media of late. It is amazing the difference it makes when you play a player in their proper position and if he can produce consistently he is going to be a real asset. He must have broken about 10 mirrors though with the luck he is having in front of goal at the moment!

Overall really good 3 points and there looks to be a real spirit developing within the team which has been missing for a while. We were definitely more solid through the spine of the team and the new guys are only going to get better with more games and adapting to the speed of the game here. Huge result for Pedro too, after the Euro result the pressure was on to start well and it is one down with 2 home games coming up. We definitely look far stronger than we did 6 weeks ago and it's a better start than last season so bring on Hibs this weekend.

Final thoughts on the Sportscene coverage last night and I thought it was really poor. I didn't see other Premiership games to comment but so much from yesterday was missed and there was some amateur analysis - highlighting how bringing Wilson on caused problems for Rangers with incidents that happened before he came on for example, no discussion over whether or not Moult should have been sent off (had it been an old firm player I am sure it would have been worthy of discussion) and a couple of chances for both teams not included. You would think Windass hitting the woodwork for example might have counted in the match highlights as it is as close to a goal as you can get.

Team Strengthening
by Curly # rangers are very bad and Celtic are fabulously great 👍 (U1103) 10 August 2017

What's everyone's thoughts on how well the main clubs have strengthened their teams / squad so far?

I know its early doors but I really think we have strengthened a lot especially in the defence and midfield. We now have a good centre back pairing and have real options in midfield as well

Stuart Armstrong

Southampton to offer £3M for the midfielder in final year of contract

"What you prefer Stuart ?...."

"...an SPL league medal and maybe a cup and perhaps a wee runaround the CL before being dumped in to the consolation cup at best.."

"...and £5k-£10k a week for your efforts.."

OR

"...EPL football and £50k+ a week..?"

Stuart - " get ma flight booked, I'm aff tae the south coast "

Pretty much sums it up I'd say

EDIT:
...oh and Rangers by the way...

Rangers v Hibs
by Smid (U13415) 13 August 2017

Not going to be on much tomorrow due to work but a few thoughts on the game yesterday.

Firstly, get the ref out the way. No accusations of bias or any nonsense but he was awful. Horrendous. Some of the decisions were inexplicable, and unfortunately we seemed to be on the wrong side of just about all of them.

Graeme Murty
by M72 (U21554) 11 July 2017

You know, I think we made a big boo-boo overlooking him for the permanent gig. Came across very well in interviews, did a lot of good work with the development squad and knows the ins and outs of Rangers as a whole.

From him holding Celtic to a 1-1 draw to us then getting pumped 5-1 under Pedro showed the strengths of Murty and the weaknesses of Pedro. One knows how to set up a side and one clearly doesn't.

I think Pedro really needs a flying start as for me, he just isn't 'Rangers' material. I will give him the first 3 or so games but I just don't have any faith in him at all.

Murty for me would be the ideal person to replace him IMHO.

My twenty-month-old is more subtle when he points to his nappy and loudly proclaims 'poo-poo!'.

Followed by ‘get your own nappy next time, faither!’

Is that angry?

I might have if it had been its own article but tacking it on as an afterthought when it would have been huge news is pretty telling.

I did click on it afterwards though.
