No defence in 1st half, no fight in the 2nd

The most worrying aspect of that match was not the defence (which IS sh|t), or the missed chances (which hopefully is temporary), it was the apparent lack of desire in the second half, Chelsea just wanted it more.

Xhaka is of course not good enough and I think we have to give up on him, Bellerin always appears to be far too comfortable and Ozil doesn't fancy it when it's intense. Add in two bang average central defenders, a mediocre goalkeeper and no leader at all and you end up in the mess we are in.

We will now see if Emery has the smarts and the man management and the b@lls to turn this round...

We sat back in the second and tried a different tactic. It was abt holding onto 2-2. This is why Sarri subbed in Hazard and Giroud.

Emery will learn that we can't do that. We tried it under Wenger and we don't have enough discipline as a team to carry it out. You only have to look at the lax pass from Lacazette. You cannot pass backwards in a deep sitting counter attacking formation because you have already invited the opposition in your half to break you down so you inevitability concede possession. Whatsmore that possession is already near your own goal.

We are slowly moving from a possession based team relying on slow passing movements backwards and sideways to one of high press like Man City, Liverpool. The first half was a high press tactic and the second half a counter attack.

I am actually very happy that Emery is capable of changing tactics from one half to another. Players will get used to it in abt 10 games.

Well, he should have changed it well before the goal, it was pretty obvious they were going to score, just a matter of time. We basically gave it to them in the second half without a real fight.

The good sign was that he took Ozil off under the previous regime he would of stayed on until the end. Half the battle is getting the players to sign up to how things of got to be ie players being fitter and being prepared to work harder. At least it shows Emery won't tolerate free loaders. The quality of the squad is down to the owners Emery can't control that.

In comparison to the other top teams it's arguably one of the weakest squads we have had for a long time

Do you mean that we should have changed it back to press rather than allowing Chelsea to build a head of steam in the second half?

Well the way we were playing was always going to lose - the lethargy was there for all to see - we never managed to get hold of the ball until they scored and we all knew it was coming.
Be it change of formation, personnel or tactics, carrying on like that handed them the game to them on a plate.

Keep in mind Emery is learning about the premier league at the same time he is learning about his players.

Just think back to Conte losing 3-0 at the Emirates. And he inherited a team that had won the title under Mourinho just a season before that.

At the moment Emery is not only having to try different tactics but also judging whether his players are good enough to fight at Man City and Liverpool's levels. So you have to give him some respect. We were much better today than against City. Now if he can a get a few wins under his belt he will get a better buy in from the players. That will reduce the time it takes for them to adjust to his ideas.

I agree that we have to give him time - in my opinion two full seasons - unless he threatens to get us relegated

Still, I do think that some players like Xhaka should have been obvious to him very early on, certainly before today.

Plenty of fight in this team but little quality , poor misses especially from Aubameyang , Lacazette pretty much cost us point by not tracking his man.
