Nev's Monday Missing a Marhez moment

Good Morning,
i don't know if any you had the same feeling at the match on Saturday my son said the same we did not have stand up moment when Marhez gets the ball so others have to step up.
I though Gray along with Maddison and chilwell bromance down the left with passing triangles bringing the third man in will reap rewards.
Whatever his name on the right is damm fine and will get used to the premiership.

Sorry BS and others can't you see its different all ready this season we started with only two of the EPL winning team and now have to cope without Vardy for three matches.
It was a leg breaker of a tackle and some where standing up giving him an ovation when he could of cost us the match.

Anyway we are in good shape rode are luck

Easy Dunge.

3 (Maguire, Evans, A N Other)
4 (Pereira, Ndidi, Maddison, Chilwell)
3 (Albrighton, Vardy, Gray)

Basically the same as now but Maddison more box to box when he played for Norwich.

That or go 3-5-2 with Maddison alongside Vardy.

But we all know Puel prefers a back 4, so he needs to find a way of making this more solid at the back, and more creative up top. That’s my worry - it’s looking neither at the minute!

I think he wants to have his cake and eat it in some ways.

He wants the 2 either side of Maddison to be more creative and involved centrally and also have them tracking back when he full backs over lap (which as I mentioned above, I think is much more tricky when those midfields are more narrow and the full backs are being asked to play far higher up on a more regular basis).

He ultimately wants the best of a 4231 and 4411 mixed together. For me personally, in a 4231 your attacking intent from the full backs has to be secondary to their primary position of...full back! But it seems he wants wing backs without the protection of 3 CBS but unwilling to sacrifice all positions further up field (which I get) for this. As mentioned, I wonder if he will be expecting the two holding midfielders to drop across when we are caught with the full backs high. But I see this being more difficult...unless we can convince Kante to come back :D

I got the impression he wants 3 Central midfielders and he didn’t like out and out wingers but wanted his pace form his wife defenders ? (I may be wrong here) and ‘wingers’ to actually be inverted and more narrow anyway to make up a creative diamond with the striker at the tip.

That seems to set itself up for 352? The only discussion or issue would be around the midfield and whether to play another CM as well as Maddison behind a striker or to play 2 strikers (but I’m not sure he likes this, particularly as neither Vardy or nacho look particularly comfortable sitting back and, as mentioned, Puel doesn’t, like a lot of managers, doesn’t like the idea of two up top.

Claude wants his pace from ' wife defenders' !!!
Is he worried about his marriage ?

I think a 3-5-2 is probably the way to go with the centre backs coming out wide when needed to support the wing backs.

If you play Mendy and N’didi in the middle then you have 2 box to box midfielders who can intercept and you have Maddison as no.10 linking the play with Ian and vardy

That’s what I would go for

No bloody wonder the player's are confused!!
Attacking tactics
So your on the wing but you're to play narrow,
If the back goes forward you go back except if he goes in you go out, if the midfielders gone up then you need to go across unless he's gone across then you need to go back,if the defenders gone up then you definitely go back but then you've to get up to support the defender whos now on the wing covering the right back who's now with the striker

Now defensive tactics
🙄🙃😭😭

Stragely, on paper I’d suggest Puel’s formation is far too attacking.

In practise we don’t seem to create any chances!

I think it’s more a lot of attacking playing in quite a small amount of space - which is obviously the idea to create those quick flowing and intricate passing moves but it obviously limits Vardy’s natural game.

On a side note - it wouldn’t surprise me if Maddison was top 2 or 3 in the league by the end of the season for earning free kicks in a dangerous area. He’s very intelligent from this perspective even at a young age.

Ironic that Arsenal are going through the same thing at the moment with a change of Manager, new one wants them to have more possession and play their way forwards, to be honest I thought that's what they'd been doing for the last 20 odd years.
