Pogba is not useless. Granted he has been on many occasions for us, but he was decent at the World Cup for France, whilst not their best player.

He’s always been overrated, but if he has a coach and team he actually wanted to play for them we might see more of the France version of pogba.

But as a midfielder he always needed disciplined, ball-recycling players around him to offset the more Hollywood-ball tendencies of his game. That was true when he had poorer players around him, as well as when he was part of a world-class midfield. It's not a criticism of him though - just an observation that he wasn't that kind of player who mopped up and controlled the tempo.

Similarly, it's not a defect in Pogba's game that you need different sorts of midfielders to complement him. The defect in his game is that he makes poor decisions, loses concentration, showboats, and doesn't channel his creative skills as effectively or consistently as he should.

yeah sorry can't agree mate. Liverpool probably needed other decent players, but gerrards talent shone through regardless. Pogbas does not.

You're missing the point. I agree that Gerrard's talent shone through. But once he became the fulcrum of the team, it was consistently set up with more defensively minded midfielders to complement his more direct instincts.

(The fact that England failed to do the same is one of the reasons our most talented generation in my lifetime massively underachieved.)

Pogba has had herrera, matic and now fred to play with behind him. But no matter where he's been played he's been poor. Not due to the system. Pogba has defensive minded players behind him and still goes missing.

Pogba however has been complete garbage since day 1.

He's useless, lazy, plays badly 80% of the time.

How would you describe him? Please do tell.

Which is exactly why I said that Pogba's defects are inconsistency and poor-decision making rather than the supposedly damning criticism that he needs other players to offset him. I'm not defending him - he's been massively disappointing. I'm not saying he has been remotely comparable to Gerrard in terms of impact. I'm just taking issue with this notion that sometimes gets aired that it's a damning indictment if a player needs a different type of player to offset attributes he lacks or functions that he doesn't fulfil. That line of argument makes little more sense than berating a striker for not supplying his own assists for the goals he scores.
