Shaw and Jose

Just throwing in my opinion about yesterday.

Shaw played brilliantly, I haven’t seen him play like that since before the leg break. He was up and down that flank, beating players and even picking out some very good passes (Pogba 2nd half). It seems like the CB position is now the disaster area. I don’t like the 352 formation but I would like to see how works with Bailly in for Herrera.

My opinion of Jose yesterday was that he wasn’t to blame, I was entertained with our footy in the first half and the line up and tactics produced a multitude of chances. I’m more Jose out than in but yesterday wasn’t his fault, he was let down by some very poor finishing.

Going forward these are our next fixtures before we play another top 6 team.... Burnley, Watford, Wolves, West Ham, Newcastle, Chelsea. Win those and the season is fine. It’s within our capability and if we play like we did in the first half yesterday then I’m optimistic about having a good season. I’ll even be optimistic about actually enjoying the football we play as well.

Just thought I’d spread a bit of positivity 👀

He seems to do it to all the CB's. One bad game and you are out for a few.

You need to have consistency in your defence not constant chopping and changing.

----------------------------------

Jose only has only himself to blame for our defensive woes so far. Lack of consistency, dropping players, saying in the media he isn't getting the signings he wants (another CB after having 5 already, 2 he bought) and our desperate approach to signing one on the last day of the window (ok the board is also to blame here).

Also heard on Sky that Jose was moaning about not having a left sided CB. He has only had what, 3 summers to sort that out.

Does nothing to help a players confidence. I disagree with G.Nev when he said that Jose should have been backed by the board in buying another CB. I thought the board were quite right in holding back after seeing that the £60m they have invested in Bailly and Lindelof has not solved our issues, yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Naive statement

Bailly was bought for the first team, he clearly stated Lindelof was for the future. Any watching Bailly play can see he needs a calming leader next to him.

Jose saw that and Ed didn’t sort it. All this nonsense of 60m wasted....his total defensive outlay is less than Liverpool spent on VVD.

I don't think I ever had it in me to this, but am started to feel sorry for the guy. I think Smalling is our best defender, but when you look at how Moura went past him yesterday, it was tragic.

As for Lukaku, my word he is bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Moura has pace to burn though, not many defenders are catching him in that position

Fred tried to win the ball in midfield but committed himself without winning it and we were carved open after that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ball was there for Smalling to win. He actually touched the ball but still messed up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

it he touched the ball, thats bad luck then surely? ball could have gone anywhere
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch Lindelof on that goal... As soon as Smalling challenges he stops running back to cover... Then does his oops routine when the ball breaks
----------------------------------------------------------------------

yeah your right, just saw that

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If he'd kept going he could have challenged... He's just not a premier league quality defender

If you look at the match stats and not the result it does paint a different picture and something encouraging for utd fans going forward. At 2 nil, lingard has a great chance to get in the game.

If we were outplayed then i would be worried.

Jones facks up for the first.
Smalling for the third.
Lindeloff nearly gives another goal away.

This only confirms the shambles of our recruitment 'strategy' in our CBs, which is having an effect on performances.

I never watched Bailly at Villarreal, however, if we did scout him, then I imagine we would have noted these traits and that he needed a calming influence before we signed him.

I would have thought Jose would have signed a commanding and experienced CB from the start and then use Smalling/Jones next to them as second fiddle. Then bring in a young CB for the future (Bailly or Lindelof) as a back up option (or if they perform can stake a claim as 1st choice) who can play the odd game here and there to develop.

At the moment we are buying, identifying problems in the new players, and then wanting to buy again to solve it.

Normally I would laugh but Cahill would probably show up our current crop on current form.

There's 3 months between them age wise... And Lindelof has played 100 more career games... So that's rubbish

He's bought 2 cbs in 2 years... 1 is good enough albeit rash... The other is dogshiite

I actually think Sanchez is part of the reason for the lack of backing during the summer... The money invested in him as a senior ready made star and how crap he has been... I think is maybe why the board are doubting Joses judgement in older players, particularly with the doubts re injuries etc that hung over reported targets (Boateng? Not good enough even when fully fit)

...........................

And this is so evident. The nearest to a leader we have is the very player who makes the most mistakes and is always injured, Jones.

Jose I believe brought in sanchez for one reason and one reason only that was to get one over Pep. He was not needed as the attack was playing well and more settled then than it is now. How much money will he cost by the end of his contract with no sell on value. If Linddelof was bought for the future is he really any better than TFM or Tuanzebe. I don't think he was for future as Jose doesn't do future he is just not a really good judge. So defensive buys are bad, midfield buys poor also and upfront Lakaku and sanchez not great either. Your calls Jose 0-7
