Upcoming fixtures

With the dates of the CL games being confirmed, just seen our run of fixtures after the international break:

15th Sep: Tottenham (A)
18th Sep: PSG (H)
22nd Sep: Southampton (H)
25/26th Sep: Chelsea (H) league cup
29th Sep: Chelsea (A)
3rd Oct: Napoli (A)
7th Oct: Manchester City (H)

Seems silly to say in September, but it feels like these 7 games could already make or break our season. Brutal run but i'm actually looking forward to it, will be interesting to see how our squad copes and we'll find out just how good this team actually is.

League cup I'm not too bothered about, but think we need to be looking at 6-8 points in the league if we're serious about the title, and 2-4 points in the CL would be a great start.

Redstar will surely get two points from somewhere. Let's just hope they are not against us!

I'm not sure. I think the other 3 are way above them. Can't see them picking up a point anywhere to be honest.

Any percent for no points in a CL group? I can be assed to check!

Probably actually but I've seen worse teams than Redstar in the competition I reckon (although I'm assuming a bit there).

Meant to say precedent!

Anyway possible then for sure. I reckon my prediction of it coming down to h2h records may happen. I'd fancy us on goal difference if that didn't decide it though.

Yeah 11 points guarantees progression

Not true, you can have as many as 12 points and finish 3rd.

It's possible to have 12 and go out buy when did that happen last?

Its like the 40 points for relegation. Teams have gone down with more than 40 points but 99% of the time 40 points is safe.

I thought the magic number in CL groups is 10pts

You can go out with 10, especially if the whipping boys have none.

But that doesn't happen very often hence the rule of thumb is 10.

Not in general, but its a lingering danger in a group like yours, ala 3 top teams + a whipping boy.

The point I was making is that 11 points doesn't 'guarantee' progression.

Of course it's highly unlikely a team with 11 points wouldn't qualify although with a real whipping boy in the group it does become much more likely if the other 3 teams are relatively close in terms of ability.

I think Napoli however have been way over-rated by some on here and expect them to be well beaten by both ourselves and PSG.
