Serena Williams GOAT?

Quite possibly yes. She's been the best player for most of her career.

Irrespective of her skill, she's an absolute disgrace of a sportsperson. Her actions and language when losing are shameful. She's a long history of being a very ungracious winner and an even worse loser.

THREE times now in US Open finals she has abused umpires to extraordinary levels, including threatening physical violence.

Her latest outbursts include embarassingly bringing up the gender card again. There is no basis for her claims of gender discrimination in this instance. Furthermore, her comments about having a daughter? Give it a rest! The whole football community mocked Kane for his silly comment about his daughter. Serena's an utter disgrace for doing similar.

Her coach even admitted to doing exactly what she was penalised for. She claims to want to keep fighting for equality but doesn't want to play by the same rules as others.

If anyone else repeatedly behaved in such an appallingly poor manner by showing such contempt for officials then they'd be slaughtered in the media and heavily sanctioned by the WTA. She deserves a ban but will likely just get a fine equivalent to a few minutes worth of hitting a ball for her.

I think irrespective of whether you think Serena has substance to her complaint, the method was utterly, utterly inappropriate.

I’ve just read that she’s been fined for her actions. $17k fine in fact. It will be taken out of her $1.85m winnings.

Well that’ll learn her

That's the equivalent of me being fined 40 cents after slagging a customer at the restaurant off on a Saturday night
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you regularly abuse customers rosso?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not historically, no.

But if based on this precedent I can negotiate with the powers that be a 40 cent fine per incident, I expect my offending rate may increase

do you run your own resteraunt or are you a Manuel type waiter?

Her fine is 0.9% of her cheque.

For a bit of contrast, a MAN - Anderson - in Baz' favourite sport cricket, just got a 25% fine for behaviour 1/10 as bad.

the punishment was clearly determined by politics, rather than by merit.

it looks like they've supported the official, whilst blaming the player in the most minimal way possible.

More completely inappropriate and factually bereft nonsense, this time from Marion Bartoli, the 2013 Wimbledon champion:

"What the umpire did is totally not acceptable [it was; it was mandated by the rules of the sport] and I hope that we are going to have a sanction because we just can't let that happen [aside from the fact it was his job to perform exactly as he did]," she said.

"When there is absolutely no curse or verbal abuse from Serena [apart from calling the guy "a liar" and "a thief" whilst questioning his integrity, before branding him a sexist after the match had finished] then giving her a game penalty [in accordance with the rulebook] is insane. You can't do that [he can]. It is impossible [he did].

"She's right when she says the men say 10 times worse and don't even get a warning [aside from in actual reality, where the same umpire has sanctioned Andy Murray, Rafa Nadal and various other male players in the last 24 months for less serious code violations]."

I'd pay to watch both a tv series of this and eat at your restaurant.

The comments by Bartoli, King and many others are so demonstrably wrong about Ramos and Williams. I find it bizarre that they can make bare-faced lies about how Williams is treated compared to men. Shameless.

What I find FAR more sexist is that Serena gets equal pay with Del Potro, the probable loser of the men's final, for doing HALF as much work.

Equal pay for equal play. At least play best of five like the men have to. She played >8 hours for her $1,850,000 and both men are over 17 hrs on court and still going.

But she was robbed by a thief...

I have seen a lot of people on twatter saying this has never happened to a man or will never happen to a man.

Yet there are numerous examples where men have been penalised, disqualified even.

To make this a sexist, equality thing is just a disgrace. To use such important values for your own selfish reasons. Thinking you are bigger than the game.

People backing Serena and Serena herself need a good look in the mirror.
