Some takes from yesterdays game

Hi all, just a list of a few things that I have thought since yesterdays game...

1) Kieran Trippier unfortunately isn't good enough for a top 4 side in the PL. This summer showed his strengths and he is an excellent player when the game is slowed down, in the Italian league I am sure he would excel. Yet coming up against bombarding fullbacks and talented 1v1 wingers he is so out of his depth. Which isn't his fault he just isn't athletic enough to cope, it is Pochs fault.

2) Eric Dier is a terrible midfielder when pressed which is why his future should lay at CB. As a ball player he is actually very talented, but he needs time on the ball. He can't really dribble and doesn't have the quickness in feet or thought when put under pressure.

3) James Milner is somehow getting better, he was the best player on the park for me yesterday and he has arguably been Liverpool's 2nd best player this season.

4) Dele Alli was really missed, there was no link between midfield and attack and there was a clear lack of energy in that midfield. Yesterday showed how crucial he is, it is bizarre how he gets so much unfair criticism from Spurs fans.

5) Lucas Moura is the real deal, it's the 4th performance in a row where he has looked impressive. He may frustrate at times, but his energy levels especially are exceptional. What a great signing.

6) Naby Keita is really struggling to adjust. A lot of fans, myself included, thought he would take the league by storm and he hasn't yet. Will be interesting to see how he progresses.

7) Pochettinho struggles with the tactical side of the game a lot. It is why we haven't won anything under him and so often we struggle against bigger sides. The best tacticians have the ability to beat sides better than them and adjust to the game as it changes. Poch has shown that he isn't particularly good at this, and he does make the same mistakes frustratingly often.

8) We really should have signed that midfielder, I think people underestimate how hard it probably is to get players in - especially of the right calibre. Yet we really need a midfielder, hopefully this is addressed in January.

Fair comment, cometo. I thought the main issue with the first half was that a lot of unforced errors meant we couldnt deliver our game plan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This Edin , we wasted or threw away the ball so many times in the first half , as they say in tennis unforced errors , that blind back pass by Dier nearly had my head explode Grrrr
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Totally agree with both comments. However, defensive errors are another dimension of the same Spurs team that scores great goals and plays exciting attacking football.

Taken as a complete package, at this moment, Spurs are a very average team and will struggle to make the top-4 in the PL this season..

Spurs are a long way from an average team. You don't finish top three, three years in a row by being average. They are just not on form at the moment, but it will get better. Manager just needs to sort out his best team at the moment, far too many changes, game on game to get any real fluency. But it will come.

The back four were really nervous against Liverpool’s press, so many misplaced passes that played Liverpool in, only profligacy in front of goal kept the score down.

Vorm had a shocker and you need Lorris back as soon as possible.

Any news on his injury?

Good article Edin.

Trips for me seems like he can play as a right wing back but against the better sides in a back four he gets massively found out.

That was the worst game I have ever seen Dier play but poch did not help him out by playing him out of position.

I thought Lamela has looked our best player when he has played, just needs to stay injury free.

Missed so amny points out

Eriksen

Why cant he go past a player, only times he runs is receiving a pass, the amount of simple 3 yrd passes he made in midfield showed me a player with no bottle or desire

Pass pass pass......... it seems to be all we do but without anyone on the pitch to go past people and create space its the wrong way to play

Lamela should of started

kane needs a rest, we look more fluent without him lately

Poch.. out managed and seems too of lost the dressing room of late ? after watford you expected us to come out all fired up, not like lambs to the slaughter

Played wrong goalkeeper

Players all seem like best mates so no one gets a bollocccccccccking on the pitch and i very much doubt off it either

No where near the standard of football we were playing 2 yrs ago with the same players who should be better

Dier needs dropping ASAP , hes just not good enough and Eriksen needs a rocket up his arrrrrrrrrrrse to show some minerals

Lamela shouldn’t have started. He’s literally back from already his second injury of the season.

Couldn’t even manage a warm up at his last match so needs to be eased in.

For all the criticism he gets, Sissoko would have done a decent job at the weekend.

not sure that he isn't good enough, but he has naivity in his game he needs to resolve. (so does rose)

he cannot play in a midfield 2.... hes not a good enough ball manipulator.

hes always been good. utlity man and underated

4) Dele Alli was really missed, there was no link between midfield and attack and there was a clear lack of energy in that midfield. Yesterday showed how crucial he is, it is bizarre how he gets so much unfair criticism from Spurs fans.

he probably gets criticised because he can be frustrating. but yes he was missed.

5) Lucas Moura is the real deal, it's the 4th performance in a row where he has looked impressive. He may frustrate at times, but his energy levels especially are exceptional. What a great signing.

quality signing. well done Levy.

6) Naby Keita is really struggling to adjust. A lot of fans, myself included, thought he would take the league by storm and he hasn't yet. Will be interesting to see how he progresses.

meh, couldn't care less. only care about spurs

that game was very concerning. it was just a naïve performance with no clear tactics, shape, and no clue how to change the game at all to stop their threat. if Liverpool had been clinical we could have been 3 down in 15 mins.

8) We really should have signed that midfielder, I think people underestimate how hard it probably is to get players in - especially of the right calibre. Yet we really need a midfielder, hopefully this is addressed in January.

yeah, CM, along with 2nd keeper were the two areas we needed to look at.

"profligacy"

Definitely have cognitive dissonance with the use of this word in this context!
