Forest V Sheffield Wed Match Thread

One match ban enabled

Tonight 19:45 KO

With most of our strikers injured; not including Ben Brereton in any matchday squad is looking increasingly questionable by Karanka.
Brereton was an unused sub in lastnight's 0-0 against Derby.

Daryl Murphy has a groin injury that he must have picked up in training so won't be available. This leaves us with just the one fit but out of form/ confidence front man in Grabban. Perhaps Arvin Appiah will get a spot on the bench if he's ready to step up into Brereton's boot's?
I assume that Soudani is still injured?

The good news is that the defensive unit is startinng to look really solid; against another team Swansea would have scored a couple of break away goal's. Janko had a excellent opening game and played as if he had played a preseason. Micheal Hefele has put in a couple of powerful performances and looks to be building a strong partnership with Danny Fox.

In midfield we are still playing the ocasional bad pass straight to the opposition, this makes me wonder why a tidy midfielder such as Bridcutt doesn't make the bench?

The Wendies have drawn 2-2 with Stoke from 0-2 down, before the break they beat Reading 2-1. They have a formidable record against Forest both home and away, tomorrow night is going to be a tough task.

Hadn't realised Wednesday were such a bogey team of late, so extra impressive.

Said after Saturday that we'd be dangerous if we remembered how to put the ball in the net - two cracking goals tonight but still need to be more ruthless as we could have had 4 or 5.

Great to see Grabban and Carvalho get off the mark, and signs that the squad is finally starting to gel.

The first half was fairly 50/50, i'd argue we had the better chances but both teams had the ball in the back of net and we were ahead at half time only by the linesmans judgement.

Second half i thought we dominated. Got a deserved second goal and comfortably killed the game off. Then a very fortunate Fletcher (knew the second he'd been subbed on he'd score ) brought Wednesday back into a half when maybe they shouldnt have been but we held strong

Solid back line, especially fullbacks, jankz is a full package.
Cash struggled.
Carvalho might not be worth 13m, but he's fantastic.
I've always thought Osborn was a top midfielder, but set piece and finishing needs improvement. His movement and passing is tip-top though.

We seem a little pedestrian at times with the ball but movement off the ball by carvalho, osborn and grabben made it a non-issue.

Only two points off play off lads

I actually thought they were on top of us second half, we seemed to struggle to keep the ball and for the first 15mins at least they looked dangerous, there was a few minutes leading up to the second goal where we got control back and after the goal looked comfortable.

Agree first half was 50/50, you can see they are a good team and this is a good win for us

Have watched that second goal back a few times. What a move between Carvalho and Osborn. Ripped Wednesday apart there. It is a very important win, especially as Forest haven’t beaten Wednesday in years.

Im not sure Wednesday did anything of note in the second half until the deflected goal. They may won more of the midfield battles but I cant remember many decent attempts on goal from it. Maybe when fox got beat and pantilimon had to smother it.

Its good progression, I just hope that unlike forests usual style, we build on it.

I think most of the players know now there are options chomping at the bit to replace them. I’m sure that will be Karanka’s theme in the dressing room. The flip side is managing those that aren’t playing regularly and seem a way off a first team spot, such as Bridcutt. If Karanka can get this balancing act right, there is a good chance Forest could break the top six soon.

It certainly seems that signing Yacob has had an effect in Colback. That was imo his best display in a red shirt. He was everywhere winning tackles and whilst we gave the ball away quite a bit we were quick to win it back which hasn't happened for quite a while.

Maybe it’s competition or maybe is having Pep alongside him?

My feelings are AK is starting to find combinations around the pitch that work well together, Hef and Fox and Osborn and Carvalho are other examples
