Kante’s Role Under Sarri

Read this piece from Jonathan Wilson this morning

https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2018/sep/27/maurizio-sarri-chelsea-liverpool-ngolo-kante-midfield-jorginho

It made me think about whether Kante is able to offer what is expected of him in his new role. Is Sarri going to get the best out of Kante, in a role where he’s never played before ? I know Sarri said that it will take time for our team to adapt to his way of playing. I get that under Sarri new style of play requires players to defend in the opposition box, and that Kante has the stamina and the energy to press, intercept and tackle further up front, but question are raised whether he’s the ability to score goals from that position. He’s often found himself in good scoring positions this season, but lacked the quality to finish those chances.

Sarri is quite rigid with his formation as he prefers to play in 4-3-3 which requires Kante to play in a position that puts him out of his comfort zone.
Kante is far too good to leave him out of the team. Could Sarri change the formation to 4-2-3-1 ? This system would accommodate both Kante as DM and Jorginho as a play maker, but would also take Kovacic out of the equation ?

It’s a system that would probably not give us the edge possession wise, but smth that is worth considering as an option if things don’t work out.

Jorginho would never work in a double pivot role, so a 4231 would certainly be a move backwards for me.

I think Kante has played well this season, but he has not been up to his excellent standards. I think partly because he has a new role, but also more importantly we play a lot different in general.

Kante at Leicester, Chelsea and France has not played high possession football. He has excelled for these other teams as it gave him plenty of opportunity to tackle and intercept. Now he has long passages of play where he is actually required to be creative.

He has a lot to learn, and even being played out of position he is still vitally important to the team.

Ya, moreso hoping he can develop/improve another facet of his game to make our team and how we currently play more effective.

Kante needs to be played in a less advanced position as a defensive midfielder and not in advanced positions to press opposing teams in attacking areas in my opinion.

I don't think that will happen under Sarri, especially as it seems our current formation and where Kante is playing is working so far.

Soccerlol Kante is better at stopping attacking moves by other teams and intercepting players which is his strong point while attacking isn't his strength. If it ain't broke then why fix it?

Where did we finish last season? Seems pretty broke. There's also the issue of a new manager implementing his style/formation and new players, namely Jorginho.

These writers have no clue, to get an understanding of what Kante is supposed to do watch Napoli and Allan (thier unsung hero). Sarri's system is all about winning the ball in advance positions and there is no player better to do that than Kante. Leaving Kante as the defensive midfielder deeper down leaves us a very counter attacking team.
