Wasn’t sure what to think about this but having looked into this a bit deeper it looks very shady for the guy. Amazing footballer but if found guilty he will surely have ruined a lot of the goodwill he’s built up (understatement of the year) and his career will lie in tatters.
If true, it goes to show that even with good looks and lots of money it means nothing when it comes to abuses of power. If what he’s said about the night itself is true, even if ‘innocent’ the guy is a bit of a creep.
(Hopefully without Stretty here the debate remains mainly sensible)

It certainly looks one of the more straight forward and well documented cases.
She went to the police right away, gave evidence and his own people took it seriously enough to pay her off. What's emerged in terms of the evidence presented and his own statements at the time are devastatingly conclusive, it must be said.
Hopefully it goes to court and justice is served after a fair hearing.
We'll see.

Case in point. A user commenting on what's been published, and ending by saying "Hopefully it goes to court and justice is served after a fair hearing."
Compare that to some of the comments stating as fact what they have imagined Mayorga doing, leaving no room for doubt or appealing to the courts to judge.
There's a massive difference in attitudes.

Not really. The 'devastatingly conclusive' suggests that Ronaldo is guilty. That is being based on the assumption that the documents are real, which there is now a question about, and that the poster is interpreting Ronaldo's supposed words in the correct fashion.
Both accused and accuser have been unfairly judged on this thread. Lets not pretend it is only the girl getting a rough ride (no pun intended).

He isn't commenting on what's been published, he's commenting on what's been published that supports one side of the argument and blindly believing that whilst ignoring anything else and his comments clearly shows that he thinks Ronaldo is guilty (I don't know how you can't see that, just read the second paragraph). It's actually worse to assume that Ronaldo is a rapist than to assume Mayorga is a gold digger considering being a rapist is far worse than being a gold digger.
I agree that people shouldn't say bad things about Mayorga - But Ronaldo has that same right until he is proven guilty. Just like Mayorga, he's a person too.

From a philosophical POV, courts are often wrong if were being honest. A lot of cretins get off on lack of evidence or a technicality, doesn't make them innocent.
If the documents are doctored then its his word against hers. Obviously no court convicts on these grounds.
Accused persons are not 'found innocent', they are 'found not guilty'. Meaning it can't be proven you committed the act. Whether you actually did commit the crime isn't dependent on the court decision and deciding
No use trying to judge either way whether he did it or whether she's gold digging because we will never really know, regardless of what a court may rule.
In that case there is no option but to maintain the presumption of innocence.
In fact, in the absence of corroborating evidence, I'd say the balance of probability might shift in favour of Ronaldo what with him being rich, good looking to some, with a public image that is the personal equivalent of national security and therefore an obvious target for this sort of thing.

Err, hang on...
Elsewhere in this very thread I've made clear we should be mindful of Ronaldo's presumed innocence.
Secondly, the documentation available at this point is devastatingly conclusive, but evidence is always subject to change and scrutiny of that evidence is important.
The evidence presented so far may not be real, or credible counter evidence might be available. It's why I made clear that we need a fair trial. I should have added *at this point* after 'devastatingly conclusive', for clarity, on reflection.

Again, no.
I've no idea if Ronaldo is guilty or not. I have said on this thread very clearly that he is presumed innocent until proven otherwise, and wish for a fair trail, which means presentation of evidence - all evidence.
What we've seen so far is quite damning, but I do not and would not claim it's the whole picture (who knows!).
My second paragraph is merely pointing out that we have, unusually in these cases, quite a lot of documentation and clear demonstrations of the alleged victim's behaviour after the incident in question. I made this point in response to those who automatically wanted to assume the worst of intentions of woman.

Elvis, think Berba has cleared it up sufficiently. As far as I can see, he qualified his posts sufficiently stating the caveat of the available evidence vs the need for a fair trial.
Just to add to that, at the time he made those posts the documents had been public for days and Ronaldo's lawyers had not yet claimed them to be false, so it was not unreasonable to presume they were bona fide.
Either way, and this can serve as a response to Wahl too, what Berba had done was to refer the material published while others were just regurgitating the typical sexist stereotypes that 'poor, victimised males' come up with every time a story like this breaks.
It's up to you whether you want to see the difference or not.
At this point, I'd also like to underline that I've reserved any personal judgement of the events until the case is seen or dismissed.
I absolutely loathe trial by media. Unfortunately, for far too many outlets the sales/clicks/audience share generated are far more important than any notion of truth, justice or fairness.

Thanks, Dave.
Good article by Barney Ronay on the topic. Puts it much better than I have (of course).
