Harry Winks

Sounds like he's gonna get a game tonight. Looking forward to seeing him play alongside Dier. Not sure if he's the long term solution to our our CM issues but he's defo talented and appears to have the backing of both Poch & Southgate. A fit & in form Winks could be a huge asset to Spurs over the next couple of months given our injury problems & until the overall squad can hopefully be freshened up in Jan.

A good game on a big stage tonight could be exactly what he needs to kick on after a tough 12 months

I rate Winks. I think people forget he has had a bad injury and is still very young! Also Gareth Southgate has done a great job considering the obstacles put in his way. He was thrown in as caretaker after the calamity of the previous coach. And has little time to work with the squad. He also has a very lean squad of players to work with. The premier league and most of its fan base treats England matches and home grown talent with disdain. Until that culture changes we will go around in circles. England at least now play as a team and with an identity. I will be supporting the three lions this evening.

I wouldn’t call 22 ‘very young’, can be a very experienced league and international footballer at that age.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

'Experienced league and international footballer' I can't think of many 22 year olds that fit that description? Especially in the position of midfield. Currently he has a higher ceiling than most English midfielders available. I will be supporting him anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Messi
Aguero
Ronaldo
Neymar
Rooney
Owen
Kroos
Muller
Fabregas
Casillas
Buffon
Hazard
Lukaku
Sterling

That’s just a few off the top of my head.

Can achieve plenty at that age, I wouldn’t say he was young, just lacks experience because he made his debut later than the likes of those above.

How many off that list played in central midfield at 22? And were experienced at international level? The list above contains mostly strikers and attacking types. Kroos and Fabregas are the only two mentioned who play in similar position to winks. The midfield role takes longer to adjust to at the top level. Dembele, Pirlo and Modric are all players that hit there peak in there late twenties, early thirties. To compare him to Ronaldo and Messi is a waste of time. He is just the best of the English talent. I believe he will improve. Off to watch the game now....

Read back what you wrote and you’ll find you didn’t restrict the list to only central midfielders.

I clearly said 'midfielder', have another look at the thread. Apologies for not being more specific. England looking good. Harry Winks doing his job and keeping retention. Positive no?

‘....I can’t think of many 22 year olds that fit that description...’
- Inclusive of all footballers aged 22

‘... Especially in the position of midfield...’
- Midfielders aged 22

That doesn’t specify only midfielders which is why I didn’t only mention midfielders.

As for the game, I didn’t watch it.

This is a completely unnecessary level of pedantry off of someone making a point that was pretty reasonable to understand.

Glad i'm not the only one who can see this. Anyway, superb result against Spain. Due in no small part to Harry Winks and the Tottenham players.

I thought Winks was solid enough but really faded second half. A 6.5/7 out of 10 performance. Was more impressed with Dier personally.

I call it an accurate and reasonable response to the comment using the framework that was provided.
