Three years since the great man passed.
Not fortunate enough to have seen him play in his pomp, but formed the holy trinity with Ball and Harvey.
Then built a side that was a sheer pleasure to watch through a great period of success and was sad to see split up.
My favourite story was on signing Snodin, Howard was at the medical and asked if he liked a drink, Snods relied ‘only a fee’
Kendall replies ‘ Everton is a drinking club, you better get some practice in’ and that was his medical!

What brought this on, OP? Nostalgia?
I think Everton early 80s was really a good side and Kendall contributed to that
If this makes you feel any better

Proper old school manager who put together a very good side.
Very unfortunate not to be able to have a crack at the European cup as many including myself thought they had a great chance of winning it.

I saw a good few Everton sides come to Filbert Street through the late 60’s into 1970. I was always fearful of the wrong result (and I clearly remember our reverse at Goodison late ‘68). Joe Royle was difficult to deal with.
Some great players, Gordon West in goal and especially Alan Whittle who, had he been more consistent I hear, would have been an outstanding footballer. With that ball, he was as sharp as anyone on his day.

He was a club legend. Played football the right way as player and manager.
It’s been three years since he passed(today)andnits just nice to acknowledge a proper football man.

What a team that was in 85.
Loved watching them and playing against them.
Great time to be a football fan on Merseyside.

Kendall's Everton was fantastic.
Southall, Stevens, Steven, Reid, Ratcliffe, Gray, Sheedy and Sharp are the names that immediately spring to mind from that era.
My earliest memory of them was the 1984? FA Cup Final against Watford. I wasn't really interested in Football at the time until I saw this on Grandstand. The colours, the massive crowds of people on the streets as the Coaches approached Wembley.
A year later I remember watching them win the ECWC Final in Rotterdam.
A few years later Kendall took the reins at City and saved the club from relegation in 89/90
The transformation was almost instantaneous. Sadly he went back to Everton a year later but he left the club in a strong position.
I always maintained that had he stayed at City they would have won Silverware sooner rather than later.
Alas, it wasn't to be. For a good long while anyway.
