So, What do Actually You Believe In?

Probably the wrong time to ask this, but, from someone who was brought in a very religious household I now have no religious beliefs. I'm not having a go at any one who is religious, or at any religion, but just getting to that stage in life and that time of night when you think to yourself "what is (or in my case nearly 'was') all that about?"
.
I kinda envy pals who are still religious - but was thinking the other day 'well if not religion, then what'?

Didn't have much of an answer myself, so decided to ask the collective wisdom of JA606.

What is it you truly believe in?

Trite answers will be defined by me and deleted on my whim. Any sectarianism gets you banned

As the man said when told by his boss that he thought honesty was man's greatest virtue...

"I quite honestly don't give a fvck what you think!"

Ok😇

Was actually meant as an obtuse reference to Tully's OP mate. He clearly doesn't care what I think. And nor should he!

Sometimes I'm too subtle for my own good.

I say, sometimes I'm TOO FVCKIN SUBTLE for my own FVCKIN GOOD!

Or something.

Nae bother.....nobody gets me either, half the time.

Sorry for the late reply, but only saw this in work.

Believe it or not, am a Protestant, practicing like mad and still getting it wrong😊,

I am a believer and have been most of my life, even the 25 years I ditched church and raved, misbehaved and partied like crazy.

I was born again in my late teens after suffering a bit of angst, depression and looking for mean ing in life, as you do when young.

Had my first Christian testimonial by in Scotland, but only attended church for a year then......I did not like being told what to do by organised religion, and missed my mates, drinking and smoking😎

Got back into church about seven years ago after attending a funeral for an army mates mum, and just loved the wee country church in the Antrim hills.

Always prayed from my teens, and although I had spells of cynicism and doubt, I can only describe the born again experience as an out of body sense of calm and peace.Like a high, but free👍

I am not of those who believes that only born again prods get to heaven, and respect other faiths and secular folk.

I do not wish to repeat old ground and some slate me for bringing it up, but truth is I was a hard-core Ulster Protestant and loyalist, and had a wee reputation within a wee world, so my belief in God stopped me joininIg up and getting into paramilitary vio!ence....thou shalt not kill was relevant to me.

I have drank far too much, popped pills and suffered from depression, so my faith in God gives me strength to keep going each day.

I have a red mist side, and find it hard to back down or be talked down to, but that has been curtailed by faith also, but it sneaks out at times, even here as some see.I am no hardman, just game as a badger😳, and refuse to take crap off folk, or see others suffer.

Now, it is a personal relationship with God, and I have a daughter who I took to church, but as mum is Catholic, I will let my daughter decide what she wants to do.

End of sermon, and good OP Tully.

Peace🙏

Just found out this morning about an ancient religion called Zoroastrianism.

Pretty much the one religion that all of the Hebraic monotheist religions stole from.

It itself is believed to be a branch or amalgamation of even more ancient Indo-Iranian religions.

Fascinating stuff, and I found myself agreeing with much of what it practices. Kinda like a cross between Buddhism and traditional monotheistic religions.

Only discovered it by reading that Freddie Mercury’s parents both followed it. It’s amazing how deep the Wikipedia rabbit hole goes
