A year with Puel

A couple of interesting articles about Claude's tenure (note Nev this does not mean I'm advocating he be sacked! )

There really is something curious about Puel. Having read both of those articles, I still feel no closer to knowing whether he's the best long-term man for the job, or even what the owners might be thinking.

That said, if they're happy with the way the club and the style is progressing behind the scenes then I see no reason to hit the panic button. This could be a good season for development given how it looks like there are two very weak teams in the league making relegation less of a concern.

Thanks for sharing Nuneaton. I personally do t believe in Puel or his methods whilst wanting for him to prove me wrong. I still see a manager that doesn’t get the most of of his players and that frustrates me.

Personally I’m happy to give him the chance to prove me wrong, but would love for the owners to be making medium term plans for the next step.

I would love that next step to be Eddie Howe if none of the big clubs take him first. Top clubs fear of an English manager might hamper him.

The owners want Raffa and have for some time so if he gets the tick tack from Newcastle they would be in for him again.
I feel for Puel he is judged on his poor English and that he wants to change the way we play and is doing so and supporting our young and talented players. If it was being done by an Eddy how or an English manager it would be supported.

I'm reasonably comfortable with where we are at present, mid-table whilst the team is being reshaped. I have a lingering concern that we may have been somewhat fortunate to get 4 wins; the last thing I want is for us to be struggling after Christmas and Claude to get the boot in February - that would be disastrous.

I'm feeling a bit more comfortable about Puel after reading these articles although I doubt being aloof from the players will help him in the long run.

I still have a slight concern that we have been a bit lucky to get 4 wins. My worst fear would be us struggling after Christmas leading to a sacking in February /March which could prove disastrous.

Raffa is an excellent manager but would he view us as more than a stepping stone to something better, hence not much good for long term stability? If looking for a return to the Premier League, maybe Rogers would be a better bet? Anyway, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Personally, the question isn't over whether his English is poor but whether the style he wants to implement works in the English leagues, which is a bit different. Communication in general is another concern - I didn't realise he still required an interpreter at times as I thought his English was pretty good, but whether he gets his message across to his players through sheer taking so long to explain himself (being very boring in interviews) is a factor that's crossed my mind.

Playing young players and taking an interest in the U23s is a positive in my view and a reason for him to stay as it fits in with a longer term goal.

As for Eddie Howe, Nev's probably right that he'd be given more of a welcome. That said, I think there would be a general nervousness on the part of both other chairmen and Howe himself about what would happen when he left Bournemouth. It might just be the right club for him, particularly given how he's left and gone back once already.

I don’t see the language being any issue except Nev’s normal rascist under tones.

The issue is the Dross so often played when we know they can do so better.

Dunge - he decidedly has an interpreter at interviews and occasionally defers to get a translation. I take that as him being careful not to be misunderstood rather than being particularly terrible with his English.
