Not sure if anyone’s tuned in to Si Ferry’s latest interview. None other than the enigma that was Deek Riordan.
I remember being pretty pleased when we signed him, he was a terrific finisher and a good striker of a ball but his lack of pace, skill and defensive work pretty much ruined any chance he had of making it at a top club.
He’s got some funny stories in there, the one about him and Bronny leaning a big bucket of water against Pressley’s Door and chapping it then bailing thus flooding Elvis’s room
Anyway, got me thinking about that Hibs side, are they arguably the greatest underachievers in the last 30-40 years in Scottish football? You think of that team:
Whittaker
Caldwell
Glass
Murphy
Brown
Thomson
Beuzilan
Fletcher
Riordan
O’Connor
Sproule
the majority went on to have fine careers and it makes you wonder how they only won 1 trophy throughout their time there.
Beuzilan was the most underrated player in Scotland, he was absolutely terrific, could keep hold of a beachball in a hurricane. Perfect foil for the other 2 in thomson and Brown.
Can’t help but feel if those boys had come through during our Deila years or even this season then they’d have made a right good fist of winning the league.
The only side I can think of getting close to that sort of level was the United side when they had Armstrong, Robertson, Douglas, Ciftci, Gauld, Connolly and GMS all in top form, a far cry from where they are now.

That Hibs team was very good but weak in key areas like goalie. Dont think they ever even had an average keeper never mind top one. Also had some rotten cb pairs too.
David Murphy is up there with Beuzelin as one of best players of last 10-15 years in scotland to not play for Rangers or Celtic
