Last night was a strange situation as we lost but there was a general air of positivity due to the first half performance, the new formation with 3 at the back seemed to work well and from what I heard on the radio, Evans seemed to have a reasonable game. Definitely worth trialling against less capable opposition than the Gunners, it seems to suit the available players so much better than 4-2-3-1.
However if you listened to Claude's post match discussion with Stringer he seemed to indicate that it was important to get the players used to different formations, so it would not surprise me at all if he went back to his tried and tested back 4. We'll see on Saturday.
Thoughts?
3 at the back?

So, with that formation to work we’re missing two players and you’re playing Amartey at right back!!
Whereas for 3 at the back deployed everyone fits.
Kasper
Evans Maguire Morgan
Pereira Ndidi Iborra Chilwell
Gray/Ghezzal/Albrighton Vardy Maddison
If you want Maddison central he could easily sit behind a front 2 of Nacho and Vardy.
So lots of options with our current squad and round pegs in round holes.
That’s my reasons for wanting 3 at the back, even if it is short term or deployed against stronger teams. I won’t argue that a back 4 isn’t more flexible, it just isn’t with the players at our disposal.
You’ve picked Amartey at right back man!!!

But again, who plays that CM role is a problem. We kind of need Drinkwater back.

Where is he anyway???

It's an option. I just don't think it's any better an option than playing a 4, mainly because I think you'll see fewer players in attacking positions to hit with passes and to create opportunities. Still if you pick Amartey instead of Evans of Morgan to be part of a provisional back 3, it is at least a formation that could be interchanged with a 4-2-3-1 with the same personnel, which might be worth considering.

Cheesy - Who knows. But he must be feeling pretty rested by now.

There you go dunge. We’ve solved it.
A flexible 4-2-3-1/3-4-3 with Amartey as the pivotal player 😂.
To be fair, I’ve though Amartey has looked more like a footballer recently and is most at home in a back 3.

He still handles the ball like a hot potato but I think his defending is alright. He may be better as a centre half, like he plays often for Ghana.

I thought Amartey did ok in the 3, he looked like he been playing there for years. Mendy dont fit though and Ghezzal, o my word have we unearthed another star??

I can see something in Ghezzal, albeit he looks off the pace. Technically very good and teammates saying he has all the tricks in training. I’m willing to give him time.
But what happened to Diabate? He looked very good in spells last season but has now entirely disappeared?! Has he never got over Appleton departing?!
