Why is Paul Merson so bitter?

A bit baffled by the continuous bitterness towards our recent run of victories.

Most of us fans can see that we are by far the finished article and still look very suspect in games. However, how can you just completely dismiss the 10 victories on the trott and after each win, keep harping on about not playing anyone half decent.

Merson and other pundits are quick to always remind the world that the prem is the best league in the world and that everyone can beat everyone so why the complete bitterness towards our current run where we have won 7 prem games on the trott!

By his logic, we could beat every team placed between 6th and 20th home and away giving us 90 points and he will still not credit us because apparently we haven't played anyone "decent yet"

Yes we are all aware that there are better teams than us like Liverpool, City and to a degree Chelsea and when we play them again, we may struggle but we have just had a new manager come into place after 20 years of wenger who is into his first season. We have also won more or equaled more away wins than what wenger did last season.

Curious to know where all this hate from Merson and other pundits is coming from?

When Chelsea broke the record a couple of years ago not one mention that teams they faced wernt top 6. Always one rule for us

It’s not just him. Our winning run has gone quite unmentioned and or played down in the media. Think part of it is that everyone pre season insisted we’d have a poor season after the manager switch and would struggle for a few years.(which could still happen). So I think many in media don’t want to feel they were wrong with the predictions, and are waiting for us to start faltering.

I’m quite happy that we’re going about our work unnoticed and underplayed. It’s a very good environment to help the players get use to Emery without too much pressure

I actually like Merson. Apart from being a legend, it's important that he reminds our team and manager not to be complacent. Today he said Liverpool will tear us to shreds and should lead 3-0 at halftime - to me it's a warning that we really need to be fully prepared. Just like Merson, I don't want our brilliant run to create complacency, because that will definitely lead to disaster. The guy loves the club, no question about that. And he was one of Wenger's fiercest critics.

I think Merson has got a point, we are potent going forward but shocking at times at the back and the winning streak has relied on the opposition being profligate in front of goal - Liverpool are unlikely to do that - in fact they are likely to create many more chances than the teams we have played recently

Agree! Just hope that management doesn't fail to notice that we could use more "tall guys" in defense. Gunners are very vulnerable on corner kicks.

I know this has already been pointed out, but I just want to laugh again at Castor calling out someone else for being negative

Big difference between being bitter and being negative
