Former Arsenal, Manchester United and Netherlands forward Robin van Persie says he will retire from football at the end of the season.
His controversial switch from Arsenal to Man U has been much discussed over the years, but man, even though he was a bit of a for a long while he was our and I for one loved watching him play.
But for the injuries, and constantly having our midfield sold from under him, you have to think Arsenal would have enjoyed a far more successful period whilst he was with us.
Him winning the Title at / for United stung at the time, but his quality deserved more than he won during his time in England.
Though I was there to witness his glorious free-kick versus Wigan, my personal favourite moment of his for Arsenal is probably still that ridiculous goal versus Charlton:

Glad you 'got the fun back', Robin. Enjoy your retirement

The arsenal fans were about a good 3 years behind RVP in realising this club lacked ambition and wasn’t going anywhere under Wenger

Well that's a lie. But ok.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really so the arsenal fans weren’t showing hate towards RVP cause he dared say the truth
Truth hurts after all

Most arsenal fans realised in 2011 that Wenger didn't have what it took to be a serious contender anymore.
Doesn't mean you should be happy when one of the best players in the world leaves you a year later for a pittance.

That’s a lie mate. I was actively promoting Wenger to go on here and elsewhere and I was being thrown abuse
Especially on here as people didn’t like their darling Wenger being criticised

Yes, because the internet back then was an accurate reflection on the fan base as a whole.
Even if it was, it doesn't mean those fans thought he was good enough to win the league.
Kind of like how people love criticising their own family, but get angry when other people do it.

RVP traded legendary status at Arsenal for a PL medal he could have won had he stayed instead of us signing Giroud

That diving header in the World Cup against Spain was one of the best headers I’ve seen.
Other than a couple of seasons he just could not get fit.

One of the most over rated goals ever.

The control and placement of that header from the distance he was from goal was one thing. Add in the trajectory Van Persie was travelling as he makes contact with the ball, makes it an extraordinary finish.
If anything that goal is totally underrated.
