It's not an exaggeration to say that today could be a pivotal day in the history of football and the ramifications could be enormous.
The FIFA congress is meeting today in Rwanda and at the top of the agenda is the FIFA proposals to create a club world cup and to turn the international nations league into a FIFA led world event.
This of course will massively put the noses of UEFA and the club organisation, the ECA, out of joint. To the extent where there is a threat of UEFA breaking away from FIFA (which in turn could lead to the eventuality of the European clubs breaking away from UEFA if they don't get their way in the future).
It's felt that if FIFA do press ahead with their proposals - which are a little shady given that FIFA won't reveal its investors for their new tournaments - then UEFA delegates will walk out of the congress.

Anyway FIFA have shaat out of a confrontation with UEFA for the time being and have launched a "task force" to examine the proposals/ideas and report back at the next meeting in Miami in 6 months time.

KIGALI: FIFA have set up a task force to examine president Gianni Infantino’s plans for a new Club World Cup and Global Nations League, avoiding a damaging split with UEFA over the controversial proposals.
Infantino told a news conference that the task force would present its findings at a council meeting in Miami on March 14.
“On the topic that heated some of the media, we have taken a decision to create a task force at least,” said Infantino, who had intended to put his plans to a vote on Friday. “We have taken a decision to establish a task force to bolster the consultation process, the prospects of a revamped FIFA Club World Cup and worldwide Nations League, to discuss and make concrete proposals.”
Infantino’s plans had been opposed by the World Leagues Forum and the European Leagues, representing the top club competitions internationally, who had urged the FIFA chief to step back from a quick vote.

Interesting news reported on Danny Kelly's show on Talksport tonight as "breaking news".
Apparently 11 of the big G14 teams have already had a meeting and are intent on dumping the Champions League and going alone with their own version of a European Super League. It's all about the money and they intend doing their own deal before UEFA or FIFA pt any of their pans in place. Kelly stated that they think they can sell the tv rights which will ensure each club will get 400m which is a great deal more per club when you compare it with the 70-80m the CL winners got.
Be interesting to see if anything comes of this but all in the discussion agreed it's clear the super rich teams are intent on having all of the dough and leave even less scraps to the rest. The reckon that this league will be the death of the CL in terms of big club participation anyway.

Wonder if If the big clubs are just using this as a bargaining tool, or if they've really become fed up of having to bribe FIFA's/UEFA's middle-men.
