Leeds Utd v Forest Matchday Thread

Off we go then, a bit tougher game than Weds night,Forest are a good side and will obviously be well up for this one, but I think the win on Weds and having a few of the players back will mean we can handle them ......you never know, we might even get a penalty .

Venue... Elland Road...Date...27th Oct...Kick Off...17:30

Team News
Leeds United
defender Pontus Jansson will return to contention after sitting out the midweek win against Ipswich due to a one-game ban.
Fellow defender Gaetano Berardi has been ruled out due to a hamstring problem sustained on Wednesday night and left-back Barry Douglas (hamstring) is still unavailable. Midfielders Adam Forshaw and Stuart Dallas and left-back Tom Pearce are among those pushing for starts.

Forest
Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka must decide whether to stick with the same side that started in their midweek win at Bolton. Karanka has no new injury issues, but made four changes on Wednesday night and has several selection dilemmas.
Skipper Danny Fox missed out due to a knock and will be assessed, while midfield pair Ben Osborn and Matty Cash are both pushing for recalls after stepping off the bench against Bolton. Centre-half Michael Dawson took over the captain's armband in Fox's absence and is expected to retain his place ahead of Michael Hefele.

Match Facts
Leeds have won two of their last three league matches against Nottingham Forest (D1) - they had won none of their eight prior to this run (D3 L5).
Since scoring seven goals in a 7-3 win in March 2012, Nottingham Forest have scored just four goals in six league matches at Elland Road against Leeds.
Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez is creating a chance, on average, every 24 minutes in the Championship this season - the best ratio of any player to play 500 minutes; he has registered four assists, with only Conor Hourihane assisting more (5).
Nottingham Forest have won their last two away matches - as many as in their previous 22 away games in all competitions; Forest haven't won three consecutive away league matches since March 2013 under Billy Davies.
Leeds United haven't dropped a single point from leading positions in the Championship this season, winning all seven games in which they've gone ahead.
Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has never won a league match at Elland Road (P3 W0 D1 L2) - his first Championship match was a 2-1 loss away at Leeds in November 2013 as Middlesbrough manager.

There you go then Prutts is forecasting a 3-2 scoreline which would do for me, personally I think more in the line of 2-1, both teams more than capable of scoring more and would love to see more goals (as long as it's Leeds scoring them ) Roofe to get 1 and Pontus t'other

It was nothing less than we deserved! Forest were shown how to play football and they were lucky to get away with a draw.

Also remember no team this season has won their next game after playing Leeds!

.....cont’d

.... it hit my arm’?
Of course not. It was a decision by the officials to award the goal. This ‘holier than thou’ crap you’re coming out with regardng cheating doesn’t wash. Leeds were lucky with the ref’s call and got a well deserved point and Forest lost two undeserved points the negates some of the timewasting and fouls committed during the game. Had the ball not hit Roofe’s arm he would still have scored as his right leg was behind his arm as he slid in to score. There are lots of stats, but the 1:4 yellow cards supports this point. Stop being such sour losers and accept you got what you deserved - a single point.

Meh, not good enough. Got to beat some of the top sides if we're to go up.

You mean like West Brom and Derby?

Of course he wouldn’t.. like the Brentford player the other week who swallow dived over or keeper didn’t talk the ref out of the penalty decision. We were p*ssed off then and I entirely understand why forest fans are now.

From their point of view they’ve been robbed of a dogged rearguard away win. From our perspective... it’s another team that’s nicked a soft goal early at Elland Road and parked the bus.

Forest were very good defensively and abysmal with the ball... but it’s hard to break down sides who are showing no ambition. Possession stats don’t win games and yet again we’re left wondering why we get in so many promising positions but mess up the final ball... we still had balls flashing across the 6 yard box and enough chances to have at least justified the draw.

If I was a forest fan, part of me would be thinking, we were shafted, but if you’re going to spend 80 minutes playing for 1-0 and spend that time camped in your own half you are going to have to ride your luck.

Exactly! They were like watching Middlesbrough. All this talk of them being a good side. Nobody saw that yesterday.

They might win a few playing like that but more often than not they will come unstuck.

Last season we would have lost that game and folded under their bullying tactics. This season we can handle ourselves and never seem to give up.

We just need more consistency in front of goal and if I were Radz I’d make sure I got whoever MB wants in January.

Basically they are thugs. 42 yellows and 3 reds in 18 games tells a story. They are way out in front in the fair play league.

Should have had another red and a few more yellows yesterday as well.

What seems to have largely been ignored is that despite what Roofe says about it being ball to arm, it was clearly arm to ball!

That said we (and Leeds) got what we deserved, albeit in a slightly unsavoury way. And for the Leeds fans criticising the way we played - that was not our usual style, which I think shows the respect AK gave your side. Ironically it was similar to what a lot of teams do when they turn up at the CG. As it happens, we very nearly did a very professional job. Also, as we well know (from Warburton days), possession means nothing if you can’t score.

It’s not lucky it’s outright cheating. Was maradonna lucky? I don’t remember any England fans saying “oh well we didn’t deserve a win”. Your talking nonsense. It was cheating and you couldn’t score any other way.

We were awful today but still scored against you and should have had a clean sheet. We dont play like that every week. It wasn’t a tactic. We were just awful going forward. As the game went on we started defending deeper and deeper which always happens. Your crowd were great and whipped up the anti. But you couldn’t create anything and the guy punched the ball in the net. If your happy getting points like that flat enough. But do t come out with the “we were lucky” rubbish. It will be the “hand of god” next!!

Whether it was ball to hand or hand to ball, it went in, it was given - move on.

Forshaw is great at going sideways and backwards. Can he go backwards all the way to Middleborough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Adam Forshaw vs. Forest:

91 touches (3rd-most)
63 successful passes (most by any midfielder)
23 attacking third passes (most)
9 ball recoveries
3 chances created (2nd-most on pitch)

Bielsa on Forshaw: "Very good. He's a player who prepared himself very well to play the game."
