Footage of the Helicopter Taking Off

Someone has just sent me the video of the helicopter taking off and spiralling out of control before plummeting to the ground (behind the stand) via WhatsApp and all’s I can say is that it looked to be having trouble as soon as it left the pitch.

I don’t know how this has been released but I’m sure it’ll spread like wildfire now.

Has anyone else seen this?

Stupid question I guess but how does the heli even get into the pitch ? Surely vans for ambulances are the biggest thing that can enter a stadium

Probably through the turnstiles. Or through the massive open space between the stands.

I haven't seen the video and have absolutely no desire to see it. Four - not just one, no matter how much he means to one and all - people died and it borders on the ghoulish for anyone to want to see it.

I knowfekall about helicopters, never been in one, but by the tail spinning it is obvious too, again, to one and all that the aircraft's tail rotor malfunctioned. With no height to play with, the end was, tragically, inevitable.

Thoughts and wishes to all of their respective relatives.

Helicopter pilot viewing the video says the take off was always difficult as the helicopter had to take off vertically because of being surrounded by the stadium. Strangely a vertical takeoff is difficult. The pilot would normally want some horizontal speed to aid the takeoff. He says the the pilot seemed to achieve the difficult takeoff well but having done that got into difficulty after getting to his desired height and the moving to the right.

The spiral downward action that the helicopter took, described by some witnesses, is usually indicative of a failed tailed rotor.

KP stadium looks a closed arrangement of stands hence the question

The footage shows just how close things were to being even worse.

Had the helicopter smashed into The KP it would have caused mammoth loss of life (potentially with the BT sports guys and/or players) likewise if it fell in an area the public were residing.

I use to be a bit of a geek with the ACI documentary's and i believe the pilot somehow found a way to make sure the helicopter fell well away from the public.

exactly what i thought when it happened

a football ground should not be used as an airport !

a terrible tragedy yes, but questions have to be asked about why Vichai was using a helicopter from the centre of the pitch to pick him up after matches for years...this is not good heath and safety practice

Yes it could have easily smashed into the stadium...which still had club staff and TV crews in it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably because for years there was never an issue? Nothing wrong with using a large field as a place to take off...

Between the stands strange way to phrase that..but anyway. If that’s the case crazy that a malfunction happened and not noticed within the few minutes it was on the ground, or in the prior descent.

I guess I must be wrong but for some reason under the impression he flew in from London for these home games and the heli stays near the pitch and takes off within few minutes after match ends. If there’s a local airfield you’d think it would make more sense to travel there first and fly straight back. Oh well, no point going over it. Investigation well under way already
