European Fan Club Power Rankings

ESPN has performed a meticulous study to find who are the power houses of European football are when it comes to fan base. This study doesn't bother with such things as most corporate sponsors, or who has the prettiest official club Donkey, or which club's official Denim partner makes the best daisy dukes. .

Rather the study concentrates on one thing. Fans. So as they state themselves, "ESPN FC has crunched the numbers in order to ascertain which of Europe's "elite" teams has the most supporters' clubs around the world.

The list is of those groups, at home and abroad, that are officially recognised and listed by their relevant club."

1) Bayern Munich. 4428 across 110 countries
2) Real Madrid 2351 in 76 countries
3) Barcelona 1245 in 58 countries
4) Inter Milan 918 across 93 countries
5) Dortmund 839 in 39 countries
6) Atletico Madrid 832 in 26 countries
7) AC Milan 756 across 49 Countries
8) Juventus 532 in 58 countries
9) Liverpool 288 in 93 countries
10) Man City 260 in 53 countries

Some interesting numbers there.

Munich have a huge support, with supporters clubs in more than half of the countries in the world.

The German giants are the only team with official representation in more countries than Liverpool, but the Reds 93 countries is mighty impressive. It's probably no surprise to see them lead the way for English clubs.

The two surprises for me are Atletico, being the highest ranked non European Cup winning team, and then Inter. Big numbers from the italians, bigger than I would have expected.

I would have thought Supporters Clubs died out with the advent of the internet.

I sit with some who travel as a supporters club. They have ST and just use a cheaper coach as a way to get drunk on the way to the game at £1 a can. Were great for always too.

Sometimes great for getting a spare for a friend when someone books a holiday in the season or when a student, sharing a ST with a friend to cut costs.

10 games a season with a supporters club for a ‘big’ club. Sounds like a very well connected supporters club. Were ST being purcashed and shared as in the good old days of ticket books?

Yeah it's different with big clubs, with thousands being on a waiting list. Other clubs like Everton for example you can buy half season tickets like sweets.

What do the people who join supporters clubs in countries across the world actually get in return?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If they are official supporters clubs they get tickets for games, through the club, paid for by membership fees. I was in one years ago. Basically we met up for drinks every week, paying a fee and went to about ten games a season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, in LFC Boston the main reason to join the supporters club was wanting to be able to be surrounded by hundreds of fellow fans every week to watch a match in a great atmosphere. So much better than sitting at home watching.

Once we became 'official; it opened doors to members to be able to have access to tickets for several game per year, additional tour access at the stadium, for us to be able to host "legends events" at our club (getting hammered with Grobbelaar and losing a few hundred on the golf course was a particular highlight), other promotional events.

Its all good

You should be able to snag yourself a home ticket to the derby at Goodison then

Remeber the fake Liverpool ST waiting lists numbers, now you have to pay, how many wait?

Ffs. I though by cornering the urban market after the pogba buy, we would have loads of supporters clubs pop up? If they’d counted them as gangs or man-dem then we’d win..
