Sky

As you may or may not be aware, the latest round of negotiations are ongoing regarding the tv deal for Scottish football and it's looking more and more likely that Sky are going to win the EXCLUSIVE rights to Scottish games with a £33m per season deal. I *think* this starts from 2021 but I might be wrong.

I know money talks, and the chairmen up here only have money as their focus, but feck me the idea of Sky having exclusive coverage fills me with dread.

Their coverage is beyond awful in every aspect. They give next to no build up to the games. They get simple things like club crests wrong. They have dreadful pundits who no nothing about the majority of the teams in the league. They have Andy fecking Walker.

The reality is that Sky care about four games per season. The rest is filler while the EPL isn't on. And this is the big issue. They aren't selling our game in the way that (I feel) BT do. And that in the long term is detrimental to our game. The broadcasting deal should consider how it sells the game as well as the cash involved, and Sky fails miserably.

I really, really hope that BT (or any other broadcaster) steps in and makes sure that coverage is shared across different platforms.

Great day at the ruggerby.

Heading back into the town to meet the chaps for a small beer and quiet reflection.

But that’s not reflective of the whole country is it? And I think it’s a bit of a cop out to suggest the level is the same but for some unknown reason they just fall off completely when they reach 16 whereas they don’t in England.

That said, even if it were to be the case the problem still lies with the academies and the club’s inability to integrate them into the top Scottish leagues, hence the lack of talent.

Trying to address this would surely be more beneficial to Scottish football, even if they still face the issues of bigger and richer clubs across the boarder.

It needs to be a collaborative effort with the SFA, much like they did in Germany, for any of that to become a reality, however.

It's already been explained why there's such a huge difference when kids hit 16/17 etc.

You just continue to choose not to listen.

Even though I’m close to it I really don’t know why.

These were your words. I don’t think you can just blame beers, as others did. I don’t think it’s a valid argument for the disparity in quality between English and Scottish players.

My interest and association is as a football fan that comes from over the boarder. And as a fan of a club that has important Scotts in our history (apart from Moyes ) it’s always somewhere our fans will take and interest in. The discussion has progressed from the op and my initial comments, but it’s been good to hear from your side of things, despite our disagreements.
