Turgid slow football?

Great result last night. A win is a win.

Taking nothing away from the result. But what has been really bugging me is why are we playing such boring football. It's really dull at times. The football these same group of players were playing a couple of seasons back was great to watch. What has changed so much with the same set of players? It surely can't be the fact that we no longer play on the "smaller" WHL pitch. Some of those games were we used to ping the ball around so fast was a joy to watch at times. But now it's all a bit meh.

Thoughts?

i think this is the most pts amassed by Spurs in the EPL era after 12 games.

A solid base to build from. Liverpool were very entertaining last season. Ran out of steam. Ended below us.

A few reasons for this. I don't think our best players are in their best form at the moment, and the tiredness could be a contributor to that, what with the World Cup. Some of our best performing players have been those not taken to the World Cup - Lamela, Moura, Sissoko. Obviously injuries as well, the stadium situation, no new signings to keep the team fresh and give us some renewed belief.

Despite all this it's the best start to a season we've made, points wise. Poch is performing another minor miracle and it annoys me that he's still getting questioned by fans.

I think it’s right he gets questioned, he’s not perfect. He spent all of 2018 giving the big talk about being “brave”, getting our transfer business done early etc but it never happened. You don’t come out with that sort of talk unless you’re sure it’s going to be backed up. Also his retreating tactics essentially cost us the points vs Inter and PSV.

You blame him for telling Levy to be brave when Levy wasn't, or not getting our business done early?? Why is that Poch's fault?

I think it's fair Poch might get blamed for something during a match but once the game has passed you let it go and look at the bigger picture. And he's doing a fantastic job given the circumstances.

He shouldn’t have come out and said it unless he’d been reassured we were going to do it, because he then tried backtracking by saying he was happy with the squad and new contracts were like new signings...

Last season he was criticised for not shutting up shop when 1-0 vs Juve.

This season we look to defend leads in away European fixtures and he's criticised for "retreating tactics"

You replaced fast dynamic full backs with dead ones on Davies and Trippier

Maybe he was reassured only for it not to be followed through. The same as Levy telling us the stadium would be ready when it wasn't.

We know Levy is heavily involved in the transfers, it's too much to have a go at Poch for it just because he's changed his rhetoric to try and put a brave face on summer failings, not of his own making.
