VAR next season

was really anti VAR pre World Cup and it certainly needs refining and refs properly trained.

But when the season started and having got used to VAR in the WC, i missed it.

When you look at some recent decisions you can understand the need for it.

I think it needs to be made more of a spectacle for those in the ground and its remit should be limited to anything that isnt subjective.

I also hate the whole Ref going to the side of the pitch to look at it on a tiny screen. It's rubbish.

What do people think? How can it be refined?

VAR should be a good addition but as many of the handball decisions at the WC showed, it is unlikely to be used correctly and I'd question how well some of the officials actually understand the laws of the game.

It has the potential to be farcical and rather than solve problems, just move the arguments off of the pitch and into the studios.

For me it should be used for black and white issues.

Offside?
Was the foul in the box?
Was there ANY contact?

The moment it goes to whether something was a foul or not you are then interpreting whether the contact was sufficient to be a foul which will lead to mis-interpretations or at least questionable decisions and will further encourage minimal contact seeing a player going over.

There is a danger that everytime a player goes into the bos, with the ball any contact = VAR and we'll be reviewing 12s of decisions every game

Lose another 10 minutes of game time due to VAR.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Time consumed for VAR is added just like time taken fir injury, substitutions and goal celebrations.

It isn’t though. I’ve seen it at the WC where the referee is waiting a minute or 2 for the guys up stairs to make a decision. Add another 2 minutes if he runs down to the tunnel to watch the replay.

From Law 7:

3. Allowance for time lost
Allowance is made by the referee in each half for all time lost in that half through:
• substitutions
• assessment and/or removal of injured players
• wasting time
• disciplinary sanctions
• stoppages for drinks (which should not exceed one minute) or other medical reasons permitted by competition rules
• delays relating to VAR ‘checks’ and ‘reviews’
• any other cause, including any significant delay to a restart (e.g. goal celebrations)
