Derby, Leeds and Villa leading the opposition to the EFL's new TV deal. Could this mean a breakaway from the EFL.
This link is from the Leeds board but the same story is on BBC sport.

Good/bad or doesn't matter?
A league of our own.

If you don’t like the deal and long for more Prem money. Sort you club out and get promoted

That's OK in theory Griff. Problem is we have to compete with an increasing number of clubs armed with parachute money.

I say only allow the relegated teams to spend it on parachutes.

What several clubs are complaining about is the disparity between television income between the Premier League and the rest. Man Utd v Liverpool might pull in a lot of viewers but I doubt that Bournemouth v Burnley would pull in as many viewers as Villa v Leeds but the Bournemouth game will receive much more TV money. The deal is actually worse than the previous deal negotiated and Mel wasn't happy with that.
Currently the reduction in gate receipts when a Championship game is televised is hardly covered by the TV money. Then there is additional loss in revenue from catering, merchandise etc.

Serves them right for being greedy and charging crazy ticket prices Spart and I don't feel one bit guilty using Kodi.

If they dropped the prices that would still mean a drop in revenue but I take your point.

Clubs particularly Derby are charging too much for match tickets hence the drop in gates. Derby are 1 of the most expensive clubs for tickets in the EFL and it’s down to greed. It’s the same greed that’s upsetting these clubs over the TV deal. The main driver behind this greed particularly with Derby is over spending. Just look at some of the transfer fees paid out in the last 4 years at Derby and the stupid contracts that have been given out. We only got rid of Shackell in the summer on £35k a week. Him and Blackman were taking £70k a week from the club. Butterfield is sat at home on a match day dragging home £30k+ a week. This is on top of what Anya is being paid to sit at home.
Clubs need to sort their outgoings out before moaning about their incomings, don’t spend what you don’t earn.
Just out of interest are Sheff Utd 1 of the clubs moaning about the deal? I’d be surprised if they are because they seem to be a very well run club with a strict wage structure and a good manager with a good youth policy. Who don’t seem to live behind their means but doing well in the league.

If parachute payments are the golden ticket how come the 3 relegated teams from the prem don’t go back up the following season. Non of the 3 promoted teams last season had parachute payments to help them last season.
