Ex players

If you had the choice that an ex United player was to be given the managers job who would your choice be from
Hughes
Cantona
Giggs
Gary Neville
Ole gunner
Keane
Bruce
For me can't decide between giggs and ole gunner

Giggs has done nothing. Getting ‘utd’ won’t make him a good manager. He just doesn’t strike me as a particularly astute or motivational type. I may be proved wrong, but it’s funny seeing all these calls for him...based on nothing other than he was a great player at the club. Great players don’t always make good managers.
----------------------

A bit harsh to say that he has done nothing. He was worked very hard to get himself in a position to give himself the best chance to be a manager. He has been working on his coaching for over a decade. I believe the he was the first person to attain a Uefa Pro Licence whilst still playing.

Is he astute? Is he a motivator? That remains to be seen. He seems reasonably intelligent and it is still early days for him. I would suspect that many fans would prefer him out of that list because in the 4 games that he did manage United as caretaker, he set us up to have a go and we played some nice football.

If we are widening the net, Blanc would be my first choice, followed by Carrick. I've got a feeling that Carrick will do well as a manager.

I think it really needs to be someone who has experience of winning the prem and knows what it's all about. Luke Chadwick won the prem in 2001 so would be my first choice.

Those 4 games were dead rubbers, nothing mattered. He’s effectively only managed for 8 games or thereabouts. Where I applaud him for getting a coaching badge (which let’s face it probably isn’t hard), he’s got literally no record to go against. Time will tell if he can cut it, but he’s NOT anywhere near ready for utd.

Does Ryan Giggs strike you as someone who would be a good people manager? No. Is this an important skill to have when managing people? Not sure. Maybe. Bye.

I don't think many feel that he is ready for United. But who out of the list is? It was a question on who is best suited out of a questionable selection.

As for the difficulty in getting the badges, its not as easy as you might think. I've got a mate who has done the UEFA B and I know the pass rate was about 30% when he did it. Obviously the Pro Licence is another 2 levels up, so I would expect that they will be even more difficult, although don't have any stats on that.

Fair enough, but that list actually hasmanagers with experience. Giggs has almost none as a manager. It’s an illogical choice. Perhaps in time we will know whether he has what it takes, but it’s very early days.

Struggling to see past Solskjaer from this list. Plenty of managerial experience, including with the United reserves and has won trophies with Molde.

Done quiite a good job with an unfancied club quietly in the background.

----------------------------------

Why is it illogical?

Hughes has already demonstrated that he can't cut at it our level. Cantona has only managed beach football. Neville had a terrible first attempt at management and retreated to the safety of the pundits chair. Keane is off his rocker and hasn't made the grade. No-one seems interested in giving him a job at the moment. Bruce has been managing for 20 years and not got close to even getting a top 10 PL team managers job, never mind managing the biggest club in England. Ole has had a failed attempt at management in England.

Giggs might not be capable of doing the job at United, but with the other options we know for a fact that they aren't up to it, with the exception of Ole, who'd be worth a shot. So not an illogical choice at all based on the options put forwards by the OP
