Welcome return to the PL and really looking forward to going to see Palace at OT tomorrow. (Smart away kit they have if nothing else).
Needless to say it's a must win for Jose and the lads tomorrow. Seems that both sides will be back to full strength with 'injured' players returning, including Zaha possibly returning too.
We have always done well vs Palace over the years and it's the first of a run of home League games for United vs soft London clubs of which we should/could get plenty of points from to finally start our anticipated climb up the PL after a couple of false starts recently in order to push for that top 4 spot.
2-1 to United for me with Palace seeing a lot of the ball.
Palace @ home

I can see Fellaini starting in place of Matic for tactical reasons. That’s what I’d do.
We are going to see a lot of the ball in the opposition half. After maybe fifteen minutes (if not from the outset) Palace are going to sit super deep, sitting off and inviting us up the pitch. They’ll hope we are impatient and will be firing direct balls towards Benteke with Zaha in support or into wide areas for Zaha and Townsend to chase on the counter. They’ll also be looking to hurt us with set pieces, which, lets be honest, we’ve been terrible at dealing with.
The threat is largely aerial on both fronts, and we want Fellaini at six to help deal with those and screen Lindelof.
This is also the game to bring Lukaku back in for, because we’re going to need to be patient and threaten the six yard box from wide areas. We’re going to find it very difficult to cut and pass through them centrally - they’ll be very narrow and compact - but they’ll let us have the ball in wide areas, so I can see Mata on the right and Young (from left back) on the left firing balls in towards Lukaku and Pogba.
The only question for me is who joins Pogba and Fellaini in midfield. Could be Mata with Lingard on the right (or vice versa), could be Fred (although I’m not sure this is the game for him), could be Matic. I’d go with Pereira personally, but I think that’s the least likely option of those above.

The stuff about fellaini and Matic is largely nonsense. Predictable nonsense, but nonsense nonetheless. They may not be the most obvious of starters - indeed there would be no need for it, but there are far more self destructive inclusions possible.
For example, if lingard and herrera are both there it would clearly be even worse. Then United really would struggle (indeed always do) against any epl team.
Indeed, it increases the chances of losing like NO other possible inclusions.
Start every game with your best players everywhere, but in midfield that HAS to include Mata and Pogba + 3 more from Fred, Sanchez, Matic or Fellaini.
Lacks width, but that is sadly inevitable in a squad without wingers.
All that being said, pretty much guaranteed mata will be on bench and the two useless perricks will be out there

There isn't any reason why I would start Fellaini in midfield. Up top maybe. But never in midfield.

Who would you start at six VC?
We need someone in there today who can deal with the ball over the top and shield Lindelof.

If you are wasting one player to shield another then you are playing with ten men.
We are at home to Palace for gods sake.
My midfield would be.
........Herrera...........
Fred.........Pogba

Here is another thought on Lindelof. Instead of using Fellaini to protect him, play Fellaini as CB in the first place.

What functions are Herrera and Fred going to perform?
Palace are going to camp on the edge of their area for 75 minutes of the game. We’re going to want to ensure we keep ahold of the ball and deal with quick, aerial counters.
This isn’t a game for driving runs, quick transitions or a determined high press.

Midfield functions Rosso. Something midfielders do.

How’s that run against ‘soft London clubs’ going sunshine? 😂
