Perhaps Jose feels he needs a defensive minded midfielder at all costs, seeing none of our other mf’s are that defensive and pogba is a downright defensive liability at times..escaping criticism is odd, given that nearly everyone else seems to be fair game..

The only reason i can think of though not fully sure is that they used to play for him for another team.

I can not think of any other valid reasonable excuse why they dodge the miserable one's radar.

Are Matic and Lukaku (excluding DDG for obvious reasons) the only two who seem undroppable and are always (so far) able to escape Mourinho's scathing criticisms?

Two very underwhelming players nowadays, and they always escape Mourinho's negatives and end up in the starting 11 no matter what. What gives?

He did well the first few months and, just like his time at Chelsea, he went downhill.

He seems to only be able to maintain that form for a short period. Maybe he does need rest or competition for his place. We don't need a direct DM to play to make the team work. Herrera did great there before Matic came. A mistake I thought at the time and seems to be proven right ons year on.

Many of our fans were up in arms when he left...the talk was that he'd free up Pogba

I was 'meh' then....have not changed my view
