No I totally agree that the club need to be bringing in real quality but I’d also say the club have failed in bringing in potential quality and improving them which is a major problem for me and something we’ve historically always done well.

Agree, that has to come down to the management and coaching staff though.

I'm keen for us to rip it up and start again. Get in a progressive coach who is going to lay the foundations. It doesn't need to be a Klopp or Guardiola, just somebody who can get us playing good stuff and leave the squad in a good position for the next manager after him. That's no easy task though with the state of the squad right now.

Trouble is, I don't think Woodward has that mindset or footballing knowledge to do so. After Jose it may be an attacking coach who is sacked after a season for not finishing Top 4.

Sorry, yes I did see your earlier post and everything you say is valid. One point though, I’m not entirely sure where the club stand on backing José financially in the market, and I include Woodward in that and that’s a big part of the problem. If the club are reluctant to give Jose more money which is completely understandable then they should just sack him. We seem to be in some pointless limbo where we’re too afraid to make a big call one way or the other.

I also think the Witsel rumours are complete nonsense anyway.

Regardless of age, two of his signings are no longer at the club, 4 have been total failures and the others not lived up to expectation.

That’s a completely different argument though, isn’t it?

All I was doing was debunking the myth that Jose tends to be interested in signing only over-the-hill or past their prime players.

Agreed, which is why I feel Jose needs to go but that Woodward is a bigger problem at the club and nothing long term will be fixed with him around.

I see. I never thought that about Jose, certainly at United.

Lindelof, Pogba, Bailly and Lukaku could all be seen as key figures in their previous clubs, so I don't blame him for these signings (well, I do for Lukaku).

'82, agreed, you do seem to be stuck in no man's land right now. I just went by the best available evidence, or, at least, what is generally held as true (afaik, due to their refusal to land him the CB he wanted in preseason).

I agree that your problems go deeper than José, and that the decision to stick with him as manager but refuse to back him fully in the summer was questionable, to say the least.

I can see how that will excite everyone.

Why not wait until he's 35 before Mourinho signs him?

If we get our hands on a coach who gets us playing good stuff but isn't given enough time to get us consistently competitive there should be a riot.

Ed would go quite swiftly after the fan protests etc.
