the problem with these games now is I can imagine jose spends hours tactically planning for this type of opposition making sure every player is in his position when we have the ball and when we don't have it, planning every 10min section of the match and scenario for what we would do if we went behind or ahead, where with fergie I can imagine not that it was a sign of disrespect but he would probably just say go out there and get the 3points and the players would deliver

I think that this has been a problem since Moyes took over to be fair. We should be going out in 75% of our games and just playing attacking football and imposing ourselves on the opposition. Too often we give our opponents too much respect and try to nullify their strengths first rather than playing to our strengths. Of course in the bigger games you need to be more tactical, but with our size and financial capabilities, there is no reason that we shouldn't have the players and the confidence to just overpower most opponents.

Can't agree more. We are the antithesis of Sir Alex's teams. Swagger has been replaced with "tactics" and bravado replaced with fear. Like the "good old days" before Alex, when we aspired to pinch a cup on a good year!

However in the 'good old days', before Fergie we still had plenty of swagger about our play and was a delight to pay and watch on the whole, regardless that we won feck all. I'd swap that right now.

Sexton and O'Farrell not so much.

Yes, Sexton was an advocate of Malcolm Alison and his obsession with Dutch 'Total' football. However he couldn't adapt it into the hurly burly of English Div 1 football at United. Hence the Sexton years were similar to LGVs. Lots of short sideways passing with little forward momentum and penetration . A bit of a bore fest.

I wouldn’t say it was tragic. Ideally I’d have Bailly over Jones and that would be my preferred back VI.
