De gea 1 more year extension..

We've exercised the option for an extra year in de gea contract, as positive as this is, a part of me feels we can't be close to agreeing a new deal if we need to get this extra year now. Probably just to be on the safe side though.

Can’t see them putting up a wage package that would be comparable with Griezmann’s, ioag.

I don’t think he’s got that much affinity towards Atleti despite being a youth player. He wanted to join you for example. And has spent nearly as many years with us as he did at Atleti, I think he has more of an affinity with us that them.

He’s far too good for us right now. But I get the impression he genuinely loves it at United, which is why he’s still here and why he’s negotiating a new contract.

I could be wrong, but I expect him to sign another contract and be at the club until his early to mid 30’s.

I think it is more the location than the club. Its where his missus lives I believe? After making it work for so many years over the long distance, he may well just want to move back home.

Pretty sure his wife recently moved over to England. I am confident De Gea will stay. Worst case scenario is he leaves and we get Oblak, not at De Geas level but would still be the best in the league.

I hope you are right. I do think that he has an affinity with the club and fans. He has always been well received by the OT crowd, even when he was a bit shaky at the start and when he almost left.

I don't honestly think there's much at all between the two.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Oblak. He’s yet to renew his deal which runs to 2021 I believe.

They may struggle to get the sort of money the other expensive keepers have gone for due to the market for keepers not being as high as it was. Most of the richest clubs won’t be in for one this summer.

Yep, 2021, though 2+ years still gives Atleti a fair bit of margin. His release clause is €100M, I think.

At this point in time I'd say he's still worth it, but you're right in that there don't seem to be that many richer clubs in desperate need of a 'keeper.

And therein lies the problem for them. Well it’s not so much a problem if they can get him to commit to a new contract because they can just keep him.

With the Madrid 'will he or won't he' saga over with now, i feel that he is content being at United even if the situation at the club isn't so bright.

There are alternative options but i feel (maybe wrong) that he sees staying put as the safest option at the moment.

He feels loved and accepted by all connected to the club and he knows that in terms of wages/money there won't be many clubs that can match that. Not to say that DDG is a mercenary, he is worth every penny and then more but he's a wise guy and a commendable professional.

The best thing i love about DDG apart from his worldies is his sheer enthusiasm and passion for our club, especially when we score/win.

Would love for him to commit longer to us but wouldn't begrudge/blame him if he did decide to leave.

A true professional.
