Christophe Dugarry

Christophe Dugarry: “It’s unbearable. He’s (Mourinho) wrecked the club. When you see them play on Tuesday, it’s catastrophic. When we all remember Manchester with Keane, Beckham, all the great players, they played offensive football. It was beautiful and passionate."

Christophe Dugarry: “It was the Theatre of Dreams, now it’s the Theatre of Nightmares. What he (Mourinho) doesn’t understand is that we don’t give a sh** about his titles, we just want good football, but he won’t realise that because he’s so far up his own a***. We don’t care at all about what you’ve won, mate."

Had to wiki who this bloke was, but I'm trying to picture a French bloke talking like this about Jose and it's hilarious He is spot on though.

That's hilarious though, how do you not remember Dugarry.

What is there to remember?

When they won the World Cup in 98, France had a handful of strikers who didn't score that many. Dugarry and Guivarc'h are the two I remember. Two years later and Henry was coming to prominence. Vaguely recall Dugarry being at Birmingham and Guivarc'h being at Newcastle.

That second para definitely sounds like a wind-up though!

I remember him due to him playing for France in the World Cup. I'm surprised Vidic and Arab not knowing him.

"Had to wiki who this bloke was"

You for real?

..................

I did as well. Pretty much the same as everyone else who is pretending they had a clue as to who he was.

There really are not a lot of Birmingham watchers on our board, let alone Bordeaux, Marseille and Qutar SC.

Of course he might have done something memorable in one of his 7 appearances for Barca or 27 for Milan that you might have seen, but as they were 30 years ago you would need a photographic memory.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was big news when he signed for Brum, he helped keep them in the league (or almost did).

He also played in and won a World Cup final.

He was a very well known player and if you watched the PL in the 00's you should really remember him.

Last season was the first season I did not go to OT. This season, I have probably seen half of our games and just check the results or watch MOTD later.

He did keep them in the league with a spell of fine performances. I particularly remember his game against Southampton where he scored a brace and they won 3-2. He absolutely ran the game - one of the best individual performances I have seen. As has been said, he was similar to Berbatov in the way he played and the way he passed the ball - fantastic weight of passing and feel for the ball.

As I recall, he signed a permanent contract on the last home game of the season, as he had only been at Birmingham on loan. Unfortunately it all went wrong from there. He had a fall out with the club or manager and his missus also wanted to move back fro France. His form dropped off and I think his contract was cancelled mid-season. But for a few short weeks, he was the best player in the PL and has gone down as a hero at Birmingham for keeping them up that year.

Someone mentioned Berbatov earlier in the thread, and I can appreciate the comparison insofar as how Dugarry used to carry himself. He was a nice player to watch on the ball.

I’m not at all surprised that some don’t remember him though, for two reasons: one, his club career was hardly stellar, and though he did enjoy playing in a fantastic and successful France side, he didn’t stand out given the players around him.

Two, some people have better memories for some things than others. I can always remember watching relatively obscure players play, but unlike some others am terrible at remembering specific games and results, including matches I’ve been at.
