It’s Moyesque levels. Like that season Mourinho will likely still be in a job until right near the end. The club is a mess.

We have better midfield players who are not playing often.

Herrera and Fred are both better mifield players than Groot and Matic.

Absolutely VC, even with a new manager though, I still don’t think they’re the level you need if you’re really going to get back to being title and CL contenders.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This mindset of champions league or bust is what got us signing this "proven winner".

The quality if a player is how much you get out of them. Get the best out if the players first, if it us not enough then get better players... And play them (see bailly and Fred for how you can buy better players and not play them ... Flawless logic from Jose. )
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is why I said the manager needs to change too.

Busby - whilst i know your not enjoying saying i told you so I see your points but after the first twp seasons there was 'some' right directional change. Granted it hasnt worked out and happy to hold my hands up but its pretty chit all round.

Anyway, my point is, i backed him, fought his corner, saw a glimmer, backed him some more and now its come to this.

On a personal note, something i will always be grateful for to Jose is that at the time of the europa league win, my first son was born just before and was taken to neonatal. Whilst he was fighting for his life, i saw united do the same (not in anyway comparable) but the fact we won and he is now a healthy 18 month old will always be happy memory for me regarding Jose and united.

Cleverson.

I have a personal reason for having a soft spot for Jose too so completely understand where you're coming from. My Gran died just a few hours after the final but I had a decent night out watching the game as my Mum insisted that my Gran would have wanted me to watch the game. A bit of light in a dark few days.

Jose's time is up now though IMO. Enough is enough. I've tried being supportive but my enthusiasm for watching the team play is rapidly diminishing.

Definitely feels a bit more hopeless than under Van Gaal, but I’m not sure the football itself is worse. It feels more hopeless partly because there’s less emphasis on youth - Rashford and Martial were two real bright spots in Van Gaal’s second season whereas now they’re in and out of the team. Pereira and Dalot barely play.

Teams around us are doing so much better as well. In 2016 Leicester won the league and you felt like we’d missed a chance even though we couldn’t even get top four. Now City, Liverpool and Spurs look way ahead of us, and Arsenal and Chelsea are heading in the right direction. We’re just stagnating. An expensive collection of misfits with no coherent style or footballing identity.

Clockwork

I think the football is worse than LVG's stuff. Mostly anyway.

Overall you might be right; it’s hard to say. I just remember all those 0-0s and other low-scoring games with Van Gaal. At least over the last season or so we’ve had the odd 2-2 and even 3-2 comeback. But, yes, we were capable of dominating games under Van Gaal; it was all just so slow and turgid. Now we just seen clueless half the time.

LVGs football was slow but at least we looked to try and control a game. Don't think we've played as well anywhere since SAF left than we did at Juanfield in 2015. Totally in control in that game.

Now we seem just to want to hang on in in games and it's sad. The only time we seem to show decent form is when we have to go for it when behind.

LVG' first season we had a GD of + 25.

There were periods in that spell where we played some cracking stuff.

It was that spell where our predictor extrodinaire said we wouldn't win any of the first five of our last ten games and we won four of them.

LVG's second season was dire like this one is, only we were not conceding so many goals.

There was just something so surreal about Van Gaal’s second season. It was like watching an orchestra on mute: it looked like football but the “reason” for it just wasn’t there. It was so bland and colourless.

I think there were times when it looked like Van Gaal had “lost the players”, though perhaps it was confusion more than anything else. There certainly seems to be more toxicity nowadays, but the players do still show some spirit when behind.
