I think because we lost so many balls in midfield,’ he told BT Sport. ‘We lost so many balls in our transition to the last third, that it was difficult to have that continuity. I think it’s the only reason [why we didn’t win].
What we did so well in the last 15 or 20 minutes of the first half was connect with the attacking players by transporting the ball, delivering the ball on the right moment, the right choice of pass, playing simple, accelerating the game.
‘In the second half we went back to that dynamic where we lose too many balls in midfield. And when the players don’t understand that simplicity is genius, especially in some parts of the pitch, and they keep and keep and keep going to complicated football, it’s difficult to have that continuity.’
The ones that bite the ball all the time and press all the time. We don’t have many with that spirit. So nothing to do with the system. I think Scott and Matic did a very positive job for two midfield players and Phil Jones leads that group of three in a way we were totally in control. The only problem we had was that the two attacking players did not have enough continuity because in midfield we lost too many balls.
Choices, choices when they have the ball. Biting I would say in relation to the first goal, when the block is low.
‘But what we needed to improve in this game is simplicity in midfield. Play one touch, play two touches. Make it simple, make the ball arrive fast to the two attacking players. By losing so many balls in midfield we broke that dynamic that normally leads to goals"
Nah, thats on you Jose!! Half way through that second half you should have recognised what the hell was going on out there?? You got Fred on the bench too! Where was Perreia? You have o change it and when you did , you take Marcus , our most threatening player off, jheeezz.
Top 4 by xmas

I'm almost, nearly, feeling sorry for the fans now.
Play 1 and 2 touch football? With Matic and Fellaini?
He's just taking the p!ss.
He said earlier in the season (might have even been last) that in the first half the players literally didn't do any of the stuff they'd practiced in training. That says to me they're either not playing for him or not buying into his methods.
He tried to go a bit more attacking at the start of the season, it's not worked and now he's gone back to type and it's a mess.
Give some credit to Southampton though. Two excellent finishes.

Mourinho only said top 4 by Christmas because he's playing Woodward.

We’re not quite at that stage yet. Maybe if Matic gets injured...

I read the comments and just laughed. Pogba has always slowed our attack and Fellaini is very limited. How do you expect us to play quick one/two touch football. Meanwhile Pereira isn't even in the squad. I honestly don't know what goes on inside his head. It's like he is intentionally trying to wind us up.

I think you guys are sad reflection of a proper fans
I watched the game and Jose isn't one to blame.
You have players who've played in the last World cup, and one of them won it too, and yet these players lack confidence which is evident and they look out of sorts too.
Pogba kept losing the ball every time he tried to mount an attack, other than the odd passes he played which showed how good he can be.
Then you have Lukaku. He seemed more occupied with getting the ball from the midfield and kept running back and forth. Yet, he should be right up front, waiting for ball and holding up the play.
I know fans can get frustrated but to hang and quarter your own side like some people do here, is why the side looks so under pressure.
The manager and the players look like they are under constant criticism and pressure.

Football is a results business, with an inverse relationship between team performance and the pressure they inevitably get placed under.

What he says is actually spot on... his actions are causing the problem though

This is one point that I have extra trouble trying to rationalise or understand what his logic is.
I know I'm one of the more optimistic Andreas admirers so inherently going to be a bit biased. However, Jose had said numerous good things about the young fella. He'd even said he didn't want him going on loan away from the club last season as he wanted him available for selection.
Both him and Andreas seemed to be singing from the same hymn sheet. Played a couple of games and then naught. Rarely even making the bench.
Of course Andreas might be horrendous in training and not deserve to be selected but it seems like such an odd outcome after hearing Jose speak positively about him for two years. It's a big 180° on his own words.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly think he's punishing him for going out on loan last year
So much of what jose says is utter bullshiiit
Bemoaning lacking players who press and "bite"... Yet prefers Fellaini and matic to herrera and fred who both press
Complains about transitions but prefers cloggers to players who can actually thread a pass
Plays lukaku who limits any passing options anyway with his lack of movement
He's full of it... Absolute fraud of a manager... Yet some (sadly Ed) are blinded by his "special one" bollox

Other than working for United and the Glazers, what did Ed know about football beforehand. Was he even a fan of the sport?
