Our new CB pairing

With Fox still recovering from his injury, Figuerido suspended for the next two games and Dawson injured for a presently undertimnable amount of time, we have one fit CB in Hefele.

I'm sure this isn't new to all of us. The question is, who will start alongside Hefele. We have a lot of options, even if they are not ideal:

* Robinson - would mean Osborn moves to LB. He's a great player, but a LB? It will mean our left side is targeted more, with a weaker LB often the root of all evil. If he is isn't drafted in, then he's a right to feel hard done by.
* Janko - not sure if he's played there before, so I had a check. He's played LB once as far as I can tell. Never played CB.
* Anel - highly rated by most who follow the academy. A big task to play alongside Hefele, who isn't a starter himself.
* Iacovitti - played well when he came into the side. A few loans since. Never seems to start at any level. Recently Injured?
* Worrall - can we recall his loan early? Should we? Can we recall a loan on an emergency loan? Even AK doesn't know. At least under the new owners, someone will know.
* Emergency loan - not even sure we'd be allowed one? I checked, we can only sign an emergency goalkeeper. Not much help.
* Preston - I think he starts at LB in the U23's?
* Ashley Cole - now I'm really clutching at straws.

Prettty much leaves us with the obvious short term fix. Osborn at LB and Robinson at CB. It's the least disruptive and should see us have enough against Preston.

Against Derby? They've been stuttering recently, but it's a long two weeks away.

Let's just attack like we did at Villa. We're going to score more anyway. Regardless of who is at LB.

Guedioura could play there IMO.

I don't like to play players out of position so I think I would risk Iacovitti or whoever else plays CB for U23s.

Hopefully PNE won't be very adventurous when they come.

It is likely to be Hefele and Robinson. Robinson has the pace and Hefele brings the command. I’m confident they could do a job together.

Osborn at LB then Will?

I’m not completely against the idea.

I’m not one of the Osborn bashers. I think he has done reasonably well at left back. He is far more useful to Forest further up the pitch but needs must.

Janko is another option but a right footer at left back has always seemed a bit of an ask to me, especially if they come up against a winger who hugs the touch line.

If Osborn is LB Preston will attack him with crosses to and beyond the far post. And in other ways.

Not his fault of course; and whoever comes in will be targeted.

They need to look at ways to stop crosses coming in from the opposite side then. If it means curtailing Darikwa’s exploits up be pitch then that might have to be the sacrifice.

Fray reckons that it will be telling if they get a hint at tomorrow’s press conference regarding Fox. He could be a surprise return for the PNE match but Karanka could keep it under his hat to keep the Lancastrians guessing.
