I thought we were the best team in the first half by a margin and unlucky to be behind, but still, we didn't look that ruthless in front of goal.
Ramsey & Lacazette changed things at half time, they were inspired substitutions. Lacazette was just on fire and Ramsey's passing and breaks through the middle ripped open the Spuuds defence.
It's only one game, but with Emery's responses suggesting he is fed up with Ozil and Ramsey producing a performance like this in a change of formation one now has to consider the possibility that we are allowing the wrong player to leave...
Lacazette & Ramsey.

Ramsey is just asking for too much. Whilst he does produce occasional games like yesterday I don't think we need his particular skillset. If we are going to pay someone £250k a week I rather we get someone who can do what Bergkamp did for us. That is to link our best two players, Lacazette and Aubameyang.
I think Emery's style also doesn't suit what Ozil brings to the party. Maybe he can change Ozil to deliver what he wants. I fear he is not the type of personality who is willing to change. So I believe Ozil will also leave.

The thing I like about Emery, is his embrace of the 25-30 man squad, rather than focussing on a strong "First XI".
The only way anyone catches up with City is by assembling a similar squad of 20-25 top players. Either that, or keeping your fingers crossed and hoping for Liverpool's enviable fitness record.
Your salary should not be a justification for being a regular starter. We need more Ramsey-level players, or better, coming off the bench if we're going to be competitive.

Do we actually know that Ramsey is asking for £250k a week ? I wouldn't pay that either - but if he'd take £180k I'd keep him rather than let him go for nothing. I don't think an offer is even on the table.
Of course Ozil on £350k or thereabouts is what caused all this in the first place - it was clearly a mistake.

Thats what the press is reporting. It suits Ramsey's agent to release that information to create an auction for his client. Compare that to Torreira's wages. £2.6m a year leaked by Uruguayan press under the stewardship of Raul.
However I don't see what paying Ozil has to do with Ramsey's demands. While I do feel giving Ozil £300k+ a week was a mistake, the idea that Wenger fed into the dressing room of socialism is root cause of all the problems. No other club operated that way. Wenger is on record confirming all of this including the danger of the policy he was implementing. Did it instil team cohesion? Nope. Did it instil loyalty? Nope.

I agree with that however wages are limited. I prefer a hungry youngster wanting to impress than an old vet comfortable with his lifestyle.

Jenius, you automatically believe the press ? The truth is we don't know what the figures are - and comparing him to Torreira is silly, Torreira is just 22 and compared to Ramsey was an unknown quantity when we bought him.
The other thing I would say is that if you don't think players compare salaries and Ozil under performing on a ridiculous £300+k a week has not caused severe friction for Arsenal in salary negotiations with other players then I would suggest you are being a bit naive on this matter.
I agree with you about Wenger, but we are where we are now.

Not automatically. But I have to look at the purpose of the leak of wage demands. Arsenal agreed a contract and then withdrew it. So it serves Arsenal to release the demands to placate fans. Ramsey will be allowed to negotiate after 1 Jan. So it serves him to have a figure out there for clubs to make approaches. Thats why I think there are too many parties to brief reporters for it to be completely made up. Obviously Ramsey's agent wants an auction for his client.

-------------------------------
Wenger and Gazidis purposely used to take negotiations into the final 2 years of contracts for whatever reason. So we have been in continuous negotiations. We are in a mess because those £200k wages are the same to us as signing a player for £25m and paying him £100k a week. Are there players better than Ramsey for that? The answer is obviously yes because you only have to look at Torreira.
Ramsey's profile is not the same as Ozil. So players cannot compare. You just said comparing Ramsey to Torreira is silly because he is only 22 and obviously doesn't have an equal profile. I agree with that.

This is true, but how many times are we going to strike Gold with a player like Torreira who turns out to to play as well for us as he does ? I would suggest not many, he is the best bit of business we have done for many years.
Maybe it is more important to the new regime to "draw a line in the sand" for the future, so that players become more realistic at Arsenal. If so I can understand it, it IS important to get away from the total business incompetence of the second half of the Wenger era.

I think most of our intake have been very good. Gwen, Leno, Sokratis, Torriera. Only Lich is questionable.
So I trust Sven to unearth many more. He is the one to have recommended Aubameyang as well. The man knows his stuff. You only have to look at Dortmund's transfer history.

Well, I wouldn't say any of those have looked like stars yet except Torreira - Guendouzi looks promising but he's very young so we don't know.
Anyway, we'll see, it can't be any worse than under Wenger !
