McTominay

Has anybody yet made sense of why he was hiding behind the wall for Southampton's second goal?

With his height he could have helped by standing on the wall but Mourinho the genius clearly wanted him to kneel behind the wall ... For some weird reasons.
One of a number of BIZARRE decisions by him this season.

Didn’t Anderson stand in the wall pulling faces when we had a free kick?
-----

Wasn't that when we had a free kick and he did it at the opposition keeper?

McT was actually ok in that match, he didn’t really make a mistake. He makes a bland and average midfielder but maybe he could grow into the CB position. Didn’t he play there sometimes for the reserves?

One thing is for sure though, he should not be starting ahead of Fred, Pereira or Herrera.

A few people have mentioned his future is in defence. By that I mean the coaches that have worked with him.

Think so. I tried to find a picture but couldn’t.

Yes I believe that he did. McClair was talking him up as having the potential to be a top CB. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on there. I think that he has been treated slightly harshly by some of our fans. He has done ok for us I think and isn't a bad squad player. Ultimately, he likely doesn't have what it takes to play in our midfield on a regular basis, but with the right coaching, he might yet make it at CB. Despite the fact that he has played a very simple game when he has started, I think that his range of passing looks alright, certainly for a CB and he looks comfortable on the ball.

Completely disagree. He has looked tragic there. West Ham he was god awful, Newcastle he was even worse and taken off at HT and Southampton everytime Redmond ran at him he looked like a rabbit caught in headlights. He has played 3 matches at CB for us against the 3 i have just mentioned. In every game we have conceded 2 in the first half. The lad is 22 in a few days, I see nothing in him whatsoever and his passing his awful

He is playing in a team that is struggling defensively, has no consistency in terms of team selection, or formation and that is missing players.

Given a chance alongside a more experienced CB under a better manager and with a settled team/formation, I believe he would do much better. As for his passing, it is 84.8% as things stand. Last season that would have put him in the top 50 PL players, which is in the top 20%. To say his passing is awful is just and example of him being treated unfairly, as I previously mentioned.

Not into this passing percentage. Matic probably has a high passing percentage however its all sideways or backwards. Just watch McTominay. He looks so uncomfortable on the ball. I recall him wellying it during west ham game went straight to one of their players and they nearly scored.
Southampton game when he is absolutely booted it straight to their keeper. His positioning is really poor, gets caught dawdling on a few occasions. The lad is 22 not 18 sorry I simply am not seeing it whatsoever. Love him to prove ne wrong but he is a player for someone like Cardiff not Man utd

People said exactly the same about Carrick during his first few years at United. He was even labelled the crab. I think you are overlooking the fact that Jose has told him to keep it simple with his passing too. He specifically came out and made this point after a section of our fans jeered/groaned at the lad following a backwards pass. One reason that Jose likes him so much is because he follows instructions.

I am not saying that he will definitely make it, but the club is in such a state at the moment, with no sense of direction, that I feel it is unfair to judge him just yet. Yes he is almost 22, but not every player develops at the same age. McTominay was actually considered too small to make it as a pro, before growing 10" in 12 months. So he has good reason to be a bit behind in terms of his progress. I just think that he is being harshly treated by some.
