Does Jose ruin attacking players?

Some coaches get hailed for transforming players either through training, instructions, change of position etc. See Henry under Wenger, Bale under Redknapp, Pirlo under Ancelotti, Schweinsteiger under LvG.

What does Mourinho do to players?

Jon Obi Mikel
"Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's multi-billionaire Russian owner, is extremely unhappy that 18-year-old Nigerian John Obi Mikel, described as 'a new Eric Cantona' and valued at £5million, opted for Manchester rather than west London". That's the same Obi Mikel turned into workhorse and Makelele stand-in.

Damien Duff
One of top wingers in the world after 2002 WC. Rumoured Fergie wanted him for years. Forced to play as an auxiliary left back in front of a heavily invested in defence.

Joe Cole
The next gazza, trained with Keegan's England as a 17 year old. West Ham Captain and #10 at 21.Signed as the next Zola by Ranieri. Converted into a left winger, the main turning point came in October 2004. Cole walked off the pitch at Stamford Bridge having scored an excellent winner against Liverpool, only to be publicly criticised by Mourinho for a lack of defensive application. “He has two faces – one beautiful and one I don’t like," Mourinho said. “He must keep one and change the other one."

Kaka - Never got the time of day under Jose, being the dictionary definition of a luxury player

Sergio Canales - At 19 just missed out on the 2010 Spain World Cup winning squad. This kid looked like the next coming of Kaka which may explain him only getting 518 minutes under Jose.

Martial - It's forgotten that we signed Martial to play as a CF and gave him the #9 shirt. Since then he has had two big name strikers signed to play ahead of him there and booted out of the LW position last year despite being on track for our player of the season.

Rashford - We seemed to have unearthed the most natural finisher at Utd since Van Persie in his pomp. Talked about in the vein of an Owen or Rooney. Talked about by Hodgson here as being capable of doing a job on the flank, nobody entertained the idea of playing him regularly as anything but a striker. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/10296860/marcus-rashford-makes-strong-case-for-englands-euro-2016-squad

This is all ignoring his lack of use of Shevchenko, De Bruyne etc. but rather the complete mishandling of attacking players.

Promise you it's true. This lad was an attacking midfielder, seen as Okocha's successor for the national team. At the World Cup recently was playing as their #10.

Probably similar to Anderson being turned from the next Ronaldinho into a b2b midfielder tbf.

Robben was excellent under Mourinho. Salah showed very little during his time at Chelsea. Ask any Chelsea fan.

Salah got out before he was turned into a RB.

Yeah sold him couple of months before he got the sack. Too fond of things like shooting instead of slide tackling.

Robben was signed as Beck's replacement. No brainer to go to Madrid with your mates (Sneijder, Drenthe, Van Der Vaart to follow) or stay under a miserable Jose in a miserable style of play.

Robben was sold because he wanted to join Real Madrid. He was fantastic for Chelsea and one of Mourinho's key players in his first title winning season especially. Ignorant comment.

Well I'm a Chelsea fan so he can ask me!

Cantona 7: "Brummie, did Salah show very little during his time at Chelsea?"

Brummie: "Well Cantona 7, it's pretty hard to show anything when you're not it the team all the time"

sounds like a joke right? but I can asure you it is not.Though an exageration to compare him to cantona he was certainly a very attacking #8. Mikel absolutely dominated the under 18 champiionships and was second best to only messi. The following season was messi's breakout season while mikel moved to chelsea.

I have zero doubt if messi had been the one to move to chelse he would have been sold for being too short, lazy or anything that does not fit with joses definition of a proper football e.g lukaku/fellaini

No doubt his style of play massively hinders the output of attacking players. It's hardly rocket science, when Guardiola's teams spend 70% of games in the final third whereas Mouriho's teams spend 70% in their own half, obviously the former will score far more goals.

Then again, if you're good enough, you will excel in any system. CR7 still managed a goal a game under Jose, but he's a machine so I guess shouldn't count.

I watched Mikel play in the U20 tournament where Nigeria lost the final to Messis Argentina.

Mikel was the second best player in that tournament behind Messi

Mourinho ruined him. Lots of my Nigerian friends say Mikel was going to turn out like Okocha but Mourinho destroyed him.

When he plays for Nigeria he plays in an advanced role
