Alisson Becker

Quick word on our No.1

World class save at 2-1 which ultimately proved crucial.

The difference with Alisson is that the guy has probably saved us 3-5 points minimum.

Compare that to the last 2 years where our GK errors were costing us points.

We’ve been crying out for a world class GK since Pepe Reina and I think, albeit early days into his Liverpool career, Alisson is going to be a huge player for Liverpool Football Club.

Onto Saturday now and the chance to go top and put the pressure on City.

Night lads

Am I the only one a little disappointed with him for the goal we conceded?

I think he reacted well to stop it going past him the first time, even though there was offside and even then he had two hands on the ball when it was kicked off him.

Offside and a foul.

Interestingly Arsenal scored against United after heading the ball out of the keeper's hand. I'm interested what the rule is on that. I always thought the keeper had to be holding it in two hands for there to be a foul.

I seem to recall that they slightly amended the rule to say you couldnt take the ball off the keeper if it was deemed to be 'in their control' i.e. if they have it in one hand like in the United game.

I think it's another ambiguous situation but two hands on the ball planted on the ground is definitely 'control' in my book.

I haven't seen much of Liverpool or your keeper this season, but did catch the highlights last night. He does look decent and the distribution for the final goal was reminiscent of Schmeichel.

Pretty sure the rules state you only need one hand on the ball to be in control, in that situation. Was a dubious call.

Yeah manfrom, glad we didn't drop points in that manner.

Hurts more than a genuine defeat/draw.

This was actually addressed last night, I can't remember if it was on BT or MOTD2. Either way, they had an ex referee on who explained that the rule has been amended and that is states that the keeper must have the ball under control and that it doesn't have to be two hands. He said that holding the ball in one hand whilst your arm is outright and you are about to take a goal kick is definitely counted as having it under control.

Don't know how the linesman missed it. His view is unobstructed from what I can see.

Not sure about best in the league but I don’t remember a keeper starting their career at Liverpool with such assured confidence.

Reina, Westerveld, Dudek, James plus a whole host more - don’t remember any of them looking as assured so quickly, even the ones that went on to do well. I was too young to remember Grobbelaar’s debut but this is as impressive a start as I can recall.

I though he might take a knock in confidence after the Cruyff turn but didn’t seem to affect him. Early days but he looks like he belongs at a big club.

Same as when the keeper bounces the ball. Still seen to be in control of it.

Or when he tried to toss it out to one of his teammates........

As in the CL final?

It would make things much simpler if once the keeper had the ball, everyone had to leave the 18 yard box. Or at the very least the opposition players.
