The shedding of the Sir Alex ferguson era is nearly complete. During any transition, you have to let the old way of life die, to fully allow yourself to make the best of new experiences and possibilities.
I will use this opportunity to be optimistic about our future, as with every transition there has to be a moment of chaos as we move away from the old order of things into the new way.
The slow death is nearly complete and the new way can begin the rebuilding process.
Could winning trophies in this new era feel sweeter than winning trophies under Sir Alex... ?
We're witnessing a death...

Martial though will probably have to be sold in the summer, doesn't appear he's keen on hanging around.
...............
I think that will be very dependent on us getting rid of Jose and who we appoint.

I agree. If we get another manager in, say Zidane, then the situation changes completely. That's not to say that he will sign a new deal, but he might well do.

Or Jardim, whom I would imagine Martial would like to play for.
I agree with you on Herrera as well. We can't keep Matic and Groot and let him go, that would be idiocy of the first order.

It’s already complete.

I look at the United squad and struggle to see quality apart from the keeper who is undeniably world class.
You wonder who a new man would even want to keep.
De Gea - Top class
Romero - Fine as back up
Grant - Fine as 3rd choice
I wouldn't say you need to do any work in Goal.
Shaw - Good player with potential to get better
Young - Finished at this level
Left back you definitely need another signing to challenge Shaw.
Jones - Injured too often and average at best.
Smalling - Good defender, would be fine with a commanding partner.
Bailly - Blown hot and cold but enough about him that he's worth keeping.
Lindelof - Still young but worryingly still looks to be struggling with the league and physicality.
Rojo - A bombscare.
Centre half definitely needs work out of 5 of them you would hope to replace 2 minimum. Jones and Rojo probably.
Valencia - Past it.
Dalot - One for the future.
Darmian - Out of contract, probably going to leave but nothing special anyway.
At right back you need someone to go straight in.
Pogba - An enigma. Obviously a talent but needs a new system to have any chance of showing it. A huge decision for whoever get the job will be cut your losses and re-invest or hope they can get his performances to reach his level of hype.
Herrera - Decent enough squad fodder for another year.
McTominay - Honking. Just Terrible. Back to the u21s.
Fellaini - The symbol for Mourinho's time at United, for that reason alone i would and can see him being shifted early.
Fred - Needs to be kept for another season at least to see if he can adapt.
Matic - Slower than a week in the jail, another symbolic Jose Mourinho type. Getting a decent fee for him probably still achievable too.
Pereira - Not seen enough.
Surely United will be looking for at least 2 CM's. Rabiot and Ramsey on frees are available. Almost definitely improves the team as well.
Martial - Good player still to show his maximum but if he doesn't sign a new deal he has to be sold this summer.
Sanchez - Flopped badly and now injured. PSG still interested supposedly, surely a case of take the money and run if you get the chance.
Potentially need 2 LW's.
Lingard - Would keep.
Mata - Would sign for another year, keep because he's the only one with real guile.
Still then need at least 1 RW and an AM.
Up top
Lukaku - Donkey. Take whatever Everton will give you and move on.
Rashford - Keep as second choice.
Not supposed to be a dig at your club, i find the situation genuinely interesting. One way or another United to overhaul drastically over the next couple of seasons

HB
Pretty fair, mostly.
Ramsey wouldn't improve us.

It's the Moyes curse, I'm telling ya, until his 6 year contract has not run out, we will remain $hit, aspiring to be at Everton's level, peaking at Preston's this year. Luckily this is his final year so next year we will be back

Both Utd & Chelsea have taken their eye off the ball...literally
Liverpool Spurs & City are a level above currently, and winning mickey Mouse FA Cups is not papering over the cracks
excellent overview from HB Fash above on your squad...ours would read similar, some not good enough, some past their best, some on holiday

HB assessment is fairly accurate. I would say that we have some good defensive options that can come in and offer cover, such as Axel and TFM. So not sure that we need so many signings there.
