Team for tonight.

Hoping that both Pereira and Fred get a start tonight. We know that Pogba is likely to start, so looking at the squad, i would like to see:

...........Lukaku
Rashford...........Jesse
...........Pogba
......Pereira..Fred
Young..Bailly..Jones..Valencia
.............Romero

Would be great to see Greenwood get the last 20 minutes or so off the bench.

Full squad is:
Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Fred, Andreas Pereira, Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay, James Garner, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood

Think Jose said Andreas will play and he talked about how it will be nice for him to play against Valencia in Valencia etc

Pogba is playing too.

Probably be Matic behind them given he has a clause in his contract that says Jose can never drop him.

If Fred can't get a fecking game tonight he should seriously think about looking for a move. Jose has basically said that he doesn't trust his defence enough to play Fred and therefore needs a more defensive CM in there. That is a real slap in the face for Fred, who from the little I have seen, looks to have a better defensive game than Matic.

I’d like to see:

————Romero

Tony—Bailly—Jones—Young

—————McT
———Fred——Pereira

Mata————————Rashford
————-Lukaku

I’d prefer to see the younger players getting games. Not sure why we don’t have Laird, Warren or maybe O’Connor traveling given the shortages at the back and fact we’re already through in the Youth League and the U23s don’t play until Sunday.

I’d also have sent Traore to give Pogba something to think about He was magnificent last weekend.

Hopefully we see Jimmy Garner at some point. He deserves his debut.

I haven't seen anything of Traore, but have heard he has been likened to Pogba in terms of style of play (I don't mean lazy).

Rashford I believe has been carrying a bit of an injury recently so probably best to leave him out.

McT will start somewhere. Probably Mata too.

Just watching the Youth League game with Valencia now (BT Sport 2). The lads are 2-1 up (Burkart and Barlow) at half time despite going a goal down. Great 45 mins of football with more goals to come, for sure.

Chong’s pace and footwork has been causing Valencia all kinds of problems. Gomes has been looking to hit him over the top from deep in wide and central areas. Those two have developed a very good understanding.

He’s a beast. More urgency and physicality off the ball than Pogba. In terms of style of play, I’d put him closer to Paddy Vieira.

Finished 2-1 United. Good result for a very young and inexperienced United side, with five players making their European debuts.

Both keepers superb in the second half to keep the score as at half time, Fojticek in particular. United finish the group with 16 from 18 pts

One negative: work is needed on defending set pieces (sound familiar?). Butt didn’t help, making substitutions when defending the dead ball, mind

Anyone who suggests him as a replacement - even short term - for José needs their head examining. Seriously, those kind of stupid errors are covered in Coaching 101. His in-game management has always been, and remains, absolutely terrible, IMO. He should remain as Head of Academy, but shouldn’t be head coach of any given side.

Cheers Rosso, will be interesting to see how he gets on. We could certainly do with a Vieira type player in there. What a player he was.

At the risk of sounding a bit Jose, how tall is he?

Looks about 6 feet to me. He’s a head above most of the other players.

Still only 17 years old though, so has plenty of time to grow the extra six inches in height José will require.
